RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Not much communication with you all if I skip school.

For skipping school, my mom is now turning off my phone's service during school hours.

There's a good chance she won't turn it back on until many hours after school because she'll "forget" (forget my ass you bullshit cunt!)

If I skip school tomorrow, I have nothing to do. Absolutely nothing that won't get the cops called on me for doing.

My neighbors get pissy about my dirt bike, my RC car's transmitter glitches the throttle dangerously, the games on my phone bore me horribly, and my PC and PS3 are still stolen from me. By stolen I mean taken against my will because "I have it so much better than 98% of the world".... Yes, she actually said that today. She's blonde, that explains it though.

All I have to do is sleep and maybe go outside and play with a stick while my hands slowly freeze to numbness.

Ohhh right I could go for a run too. If someone asks I'm homeschooled. If they recognize me I'll tell them to not worry about it. If they REALLY want to know I'll tell them it's none of their business. If they insist because they're adults and they can "help", I'll have to straight up tell them to fuck off.

Since I go to charter I'm free most of the day and go for walks to like Super 1 and gas stations and stuff, no one asks me. No one really cares they just want to get their shit done and go home no one gives a fuck if you're skipping school and stoned
sorry that last one only applies to me

Just go out and chill. If the cops ask tell them you are homeschooled. I don't know how that'll work out though so it is a risk.

Derchin

My running clothes are really not what anyone is used to, but I don't think people are stupid enough to not see my face. Hopefully they're not...

Stadium

I went to a McDonalds with a few friends on a day that was pretty much the whole school taking a field trip. We skipped because we didn't care about the stuff the school was doing. I think as long as I don't get recognized no one cares

Unschool

Yeah I don't see many cops in my area, and I think they won't stop me while I'm running anyway.

One of my faggot friends drives his dirtbike down one of the main roads in my city, plus through a lot of residential areas. It's kind of funny looking at people's faces and hearing pastors say they're calling the cops...he's never been stopped though.

There are so many fun things to do in the day, but besides that, you could go to the library and use the computers there.

Not being able to use the internet could actually spur you to do even funner things.

I'm thinking RC car on a dirt field zooming around and doing donuts. Possibly with big dirt mounds and my bike ramp too. I need to buy a new transmitter from eBay first though.

So far for the day...

Exercise: 2 sets of everything for arms, 3 sets of everything for legs, and I did some core workouts.

Technology: Took about an hour and a half of switching the positions of the screws on the suspension and dropped my RC car's ride height by a full inch. Lower center of gravity = quicker turning! I also might try it out even with the glitchy transmitter. I was messing around with it, and as long as I stay relatively still it won't glitch out much.

Your parents are definitely misinformed about it. I know PAVCS in particular has social outings every Friday locally that you can go to and participate in, and get school credit for. They also let you talk to other kids during the school day. My PE class (which is mainly asynchronous, meaning you do it on your own time) actually has live sessions you can participate in with other students AND get extra credit for. However, whether or not you take advantage of the socialization opportunities is completely up to you. But I know the kids near the Pittsburgh area got to go to the zoo one time! *jealous* My parents were under the same impression, that online school=no socialization, but that isn't the case at all. Even when I was younger and was homeschooled, the school had outings for kids and parents to socialize, and I actually made a few friends via that.
There are far better ways to be social outside of school. Personally, I think the social scene in most schools is terrible. But, eh. It shouldn't be that much of an issue, honestly. Especially since you're getting older. I assume you're in highschool. Getting a job, joining a club, taking extra courses at a nearby college, etc, are great ways of being social OUTSIDE of regular school. If you join a public virtual charter school, I'm pretty sure you're even allowed to join sports teams in your local district. Plus, many schools, especially in PA, are now offering online courses for kids to do due to overcrowding of schools.
Razz Just a bit of information for you to arm yourself with.

Teini, you're lucky in studying in a online school. My school is a Chirstian, authorative, totalitarian, where almost all the people are closed-minded fuckwits.

Consider it? Never. Talk about it? Yep. They are molded into thinking there's no way to be social outside of school and won't let me.

I never said my school wasn't devoid of Christians and close-minded fuckwits. Sometimes a combination of both. Razz Im just not forced to communicate with them. It does have lots of them, hence why my social situation in school right now is pretty pathetic (no friends), but it IS a relief that I'm not forced to talk to them. There are tons of morons in my school.
A lot of Christian parents actually prefer their kids be homeschooled. Sorry to hear that, though. I've been in that situation before though.

But Brazil is a bit socialist, where everything the government pays for IZ GOOD, and they don't trust parents to teach their kids. But government tried to use their tiny bit of common snense, and they legalized homeschooling

You live in brazil? Far out.
And that's good. Why don't you go down the homeschool route? Parents in the way, I assume.

Anyways. That sucks!! I don't know about alternative education options in brazil. I assume there aren't many, which is sad. But... If you do homeschool I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get your diploma, regardless. :/ some parents really ruin it for their kids ..
