RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Help from Kolkata, or at least India?
Hi. I'm from Kolkata in India. I'm 14 years old and I have a very simple- but complicated at the same time- problem.
See, school sucks. It's even worse than most schools(obviously I'd think that, lol). Anyway, if you guys in North America or Europe think it's bad, you really have no idea. Not sure if anyone's from India but they'll testify. Anyway. My problem.
I want to unschool. Homeschool, to be exact. My career goal is to take the CLAT(people will know) and go to a law school and become a lawyer abroad. I have a couple questions with that. Is that even possible with homeschooling? If so, how? Thanks.
Assuming it's possible. How do I convince my parents to do it? They're usually quite supportive, but I see their side- I really have to sledge through the remaining years of school(which I'm fairly sure I really can't, considering the pressure) unless there's an alternative way, or my future will be shot.
I hope there's a way. Indians, and hopefully Kolkatans, any ideas? Thankls.

As long as you can still get into law school, I don't see why not. No idea how that works in India though. Do you want to do law school abroad as well, or do that while in India? I can't find much info on law schools in India, but the ones from the UK actually have websites and stuff that I can find.

That's what I'm asking, can I take the centralised law school test(CLAT) while being homeschooled?
Also, I'm open to both doing undergraduate and graduate abroad or doing one here and one abroad.

Contact people in charge of CLAT with your questions and they should be able to give you some better answers.

Thanks, but I don't think they have any facilities for homeschooled people. Emailed them and am expecting a reply. Saying "no".
This is one of those times when I wish I'd been born in North America.

Yeah I doubt it to, unfortunately. Can you push yourself through a few more years of school?
I have 2 years left, and I actually need to get high scores, so in Australia it's not much easier.

I need to get reasonably high scores too. I count myself as having this year and the next grade left, since after that I actually get to choose my subjects and it's not as bad.
