RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Parents/teachers thinks I have ADHD...but I don't...

Sure I was a bit "SLOW" in my childhood days but when I started to grow older my mind started to develop more and I was able to understand and comprehend stuff. I started to realize why I was in special ed class my whole school life because...the class or the subject "DOESN'T" interest me...and...the subject "BORES" me...this is why I don't do well in my classes and I don't pay attention to jack in what there talking about in class. Lets look at the very beginning in how I develop this so called ADHD. When I was kid I would day dream 24/7 not paying to anything but things that only interested me. When I was in class I had trouble reading words and doing basic math. The reason why I couldn't do them because it didn't imply to me and I was too distracted into learning them until I realize it is important to know them. The thing that was distracted me from my basic learning skills was video games, toys, and my imagination. I was way behind from knowing how to read and write while my classmate were moving ahead from me and so when my parents started to take notice of my learning skills, they presume that I had a learning disability and then they put me in special ed just because I didn't pay attention to the stuff that I didn't like back then Cuckoo . Welp, I learn my lesson to always pay attention and not goof around all the time. Just because you don't pay attetion in class, don't do the work, and fall behind doesn't mean you have "special needs", its because your not into the subject that doesn't cocern you.

I'm currently still have "special needs" like having assistant teacher in class but thats fine by me.Once I turn 18 I won't have this "special need" anymore because I'll be adult and be able to sign off the special ed paper work or whatever they call it.

And hey people, I would like to say theres no right or wrong in being a dumbass. It is because we all humans act dumb in our lives. I'm saying that anybody can make dumb mistakes or act stupid. "ANYBODY" can be smart and dumb or choose not to be either of them and become just wise or just...nothing.

btw I ma senior in highschool.

I am a spiritual being having fun in this 3D reality and hope to reach my dream goals somday.

Peace and Love

RE: Parents/teachers thinks I have ADHD...but I don't...

I have the exact opposite.

I used to be amazing in school, top of my class in fact. But then my grades slowly dropped, expectations lowered, can't stay in one spot for too long, don't pay attention unless I REALLY REALLY love what I'm doing.

Now I have an assessment.

At least in your school they actually care. Where I live ADHD doesn't even count has a real disorder.
