RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

A story

Now that I'm well rested and showered, I will recount you this boring story from school.

So first a little background. My last week in English has been, hmm, less than stellar. I haven't exactly been the best student, but she doesn't particularly enjoy my company, shall we say. I think the zenith before yesterday was when she threw me out of her room for not talking. If you've ever seen Seinfeld, this will make since, she's basically declared me her "Newman", and sometimes looks at me and says "NEWMAN" in a low voice. So of my classmates said "Newman" after I had forgotten my paper, so I chuckled, and she threw me out of the room. Nice.

So then Friday comes, and we're all a little antsy at 8th period to go outside and enjoy it. So she comes in, and I say two words to my friend, "Yeah Right" because he had just suggested something ridiculous, and everyone else was still talking. So she looks at me and says "You are not to talk unless spoken to, I'm serious, don't speak unless I address you."
Hey lady, check the calender, am I a girl in the god damned middle ages?
So I go "Thanks" after she points out that this rule applies to me and only me. So for saying 'thanks' she sends me to the office and tells me if anyone asks I'm in time out. Laughing on the way out, I head down to the office.

So I go down to the office, and the big bad ASSistant principal asks me why I'm here. I tell her, after laughing and with a smile on my face, "Mrs. Scarp said I'm in time out." So she told me that I could go down to Mr. Morrison if I thought it was so funny that I was in trouble, and that she didn't want me in here.

So I go down to the in-school room and see my friend there, so I go to sit by him and the in-school guy goes "DON'T SIT THERE, GO SIT NEXT TO THE WALL", jeez asshole, who bit you in the arse? So then I have to sit there until the bell rings, when a friend I sit by in English told me how she was going to kick out and how she was going to skip Friday school. FUN!

So basically I'm amazed at how I went from classroom to office to in-school in the space of five minutes, and how I got sent to the office for three words.

Don't you love school?

RE: A story

It sounds like your school is run by some insane freaks with power complexes and in-built discipline issues.

So yes, we all know where you're coming from. Smile

RE: A story

I'm sorry but that is fucking disgusting to me. I would get a parent involved if what you said's true and all.

RE: A story

It is so rediculous. I would just go to that room with a note saying that I was going there before going to class because I would be sent there like everyday. If that happened to me, I could always talk to my not very popular principal, which would believe me because I worked for her for a summer.
