RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Re: Are movies good for you?????
Haven't really seen any movies like that now that aren't anime and even those I have to refer to manga.
The only sort of philosophical freedom I've seen is in Books and manga.

Re: Are movies good for you?????
Movies have the unfortunate habit of being extremely expensive to make....which in needing to make profit....generally limits them as an artistic median in an inherit and direct manner.
I think a good deal of movies have taken the time to address philosophic conundrums in at least an indirect means. Neo being "the one" doesn't make the matrix not an interesting take on the way we experience life as we perceive it.

Although I consider manga form of art, as well, I do not appreciate it much.
I love music, though. One of the best movies I have seen in recent times is Howl (2010).

Wow old thread.
Yeah I like Taxi Driver too.
The main character is a like a reminder of the common man behind a shell that is two steps away from going medievil on the world around him.

Re: Are movies good for you?????
Usual Suspects and Memento are pretty good..
I also like The Brave One, although it's a bit too Hollywoodian the theme is cool.
And a very good film I've seen (but I can't remember the name), if anyone knows this film can you please tell me what it's called? It's an anime movie about a girl who goes in a village with her parents, but the adults are transformed into pigs and the girl takes some kind of bridge to another world/place... I don't remember exactly and it seems very weird like that, but it was a good film.
I'm so sick of all these people but I'm scared to be alone...

Liked the usual suspects myself.
Also the movie you are talking about is called spirited away which was made by miyazaki(The disney of anime).

Recommend another one of his works Princess Mononoke.

Re: Are movies good for you?????
Some can be - films like Inception and Donnie Darko which change the way you see things a little, and test your psyche, they're good for you.
However, romance films and action films can skew your sense of reality and ruin what you have, because you're always wanting what you see in the movies.

Yeah, that kind of movie. I'm not going to just pick on Twilight, because most romantic films are like that.
