RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Melatonin

After a 6 month daily habit of weed, I had A LOT of problems getting to sleep after quitting cold turkey, and I would wake up during the night if I did get to sleep.

Melatonin seemed to help me out (along with benadryl on occasion, but I've weaned off that, not the best thing to put in your body, but not the worst, and tolerance builds extremely fast anyway).

I got a bottle of 3 mg pills.

See this: http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/circadian-...rectly.htm

It does seem to affect my mood slightly upon waking in the morning, but it's hard to tell--it's not that significant.

Since I'm a compulsive pill popper with no self-control, I tried taking 30 mg one time, (far, far more than your body naturally produces), and I had very intense dreams that night, like no other. Also, the next morning, noticeable change in wakefulness, I was groggy for a long time. Worth it though, very intense and interesting dreams.

It's also a fascinating chemical all around.

RE: Melatonin

I also use melatonin to help me sleep. A very fascinating drug indeed.

RE: Melatonin

I used to take Melatonin and every time I did I'd get horrible nightmares. Maybe that's me being weird though.

RE: Melatonin

Does it help you get to sleep? I've tried a bunch of shit but never bothered with melatonin. I've heard very good things. See: absentINSOMNIAC.

Melatonin

It helps you sleep yeah, but it screws with my dreams. No hangover though, which is nice. I don't take it anymore, because of the dreams. Everybody's different though ^^ Might not happen for you.

RE: Melatonin

melatonin is a miracle worker! I take 5-10mg when I can't sleep and in 30-60 minutes I'm out. And I have lots of trouble sleeping.

Sometimes when Im not feeling particularly up to dealing with the day I'll take 10-20mg and sleep, and after waking up i take another 10-20 and just sleep, and repeat for as long as I want. I like to sleep. Its an escape.
