RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

My school and money

My school is this old building, that was built in the year dot. It's fucking cold inside, sometimes I wear my winter coat during the classes (not making this up, it's actually that cold). There's no hot water in most of the bathrooms, once a week TP get's refilled, but it's used up in the first 5 hours. When you complain to the administration, all they say "We don't have enough money for the restoration of the building, that's why It's that cold". Seems like a legit reason, but it isn't. Why you may ask? Here's why. Our school principal drives a brand new BMW X5 and from what I have heard, school is his only income. There's more - nearly all the school classrooms have a projector, a smart board, and a beast of a computer (I'm talking i7 cpu, 4gb's of ram, a shiny new Nvidia GPU), except for some and one IT class. As for one of the teacher's lounge computers, It's a i7 3.2 ghz, 8 gbs of DDR3 ram, 2 mother fucking GPU's for a computer, that is only used for browsing the internet. Both music classrooms have 9 computers, all of them have a musical keyboard thing, the classroom itself has around 10 keyboards/synts, around 15 electric guitars with they're amps. Also all of those computers run Windows 7, lots of them have Photoshop installed, all of them have Office installed.
All of this would sound very cool, IF WE COULD USE THESE THINGS. I once wanted to try the keyboard/synth thing in my music class, nope wasn't allowed, because I might "break" it. And those computers in the same classroom are always turned off, for the same reason. NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO USE EM'.
Now where does this money come from? Bitch, of course from the students. We are required to buy AT LEAST TWO MOTHER FUCKING PACKS OF PAPER, most of the time it isn't enough. Pay for the printer cartridges, whose prices are of course are outrageous. We also pay for the toilet paper, same as before, at a higher price. Now on top of that, parents were given these envelopes, where they had to put any amount of money for the school as a "donation", then the envelope was to be given to the students, winch was then to be given to a teacher. Of course my brainwashed parents did that and I was surprised how much money they had putted in, me being me, I took the money, placed a 5 cent coin in the envelope and used the money to buy an Arduino and some cool stuff for it Fu FUCK DA POLICE. Then my parents got a call from the teacher COMPLAINING THAT THEY PUTTED IN TO LITTLE MONEY. THE ENVELOPE THING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A DONATION TO THE SCHOOL. Of course my parents were disappointing and promised that bitch that they would put in more money next time. I literally called them IDIOTS, that got me in cubic assloads of trouble, but they deserved that. Now about the cafeteria food, which is expensive as hell and recently got another 50 percent raise in costs. Then a students were told, that the school needs more money, because of that the prices were increased. Also the cafeteria food sucks and will give cancer, because there's more chemistry than food.
If we don't bring money to teachers (paper money, ink cartridge money, principal's prostitute money) they get very pissed, scream at the entire class. I just sit back and enjoy the show. Popcorn
Since my school is considered a school for "gifted" students (I got in that school by a contract, I am by no means a "gifted" student), they will do anything AND I MEAN ANYTHING to get the "respect" from the teachers. Since they are brainwashed enough in beveling, that going to this "prestige" school is a privilege, they pay up, sometimes more than they have to. These are mostly the people that get all 10's in they're report card, basically, teacher's pets. Getting a bit sidetracked, but here's a somewhat related story. Once I ran from chemistry to run to the electronics shop to get some parts for one of my projects, that during the lesson I sat with this girl, who is a teachers' pet. She asked me where I had been during chemistry, I told her that I was in electronics shop, buying things that I needed for the *Insert project name here*. Her words were (translated of course) "You shouldn't spend all that money on things you don't need and put it to good use. You should give it to school, because you never support it and our school really needs it" These were her words, seriously. I nearly bitch-slapped her. Now every time I sit with her and she tells me anything about money, I just show her my Fuel-station receipts and usually tell her "I'd rather give this money to corrupt oil companies, than school". She usually shuts up for a lesson or two, then stars her stories about needing to support school again, fuck her.
All in all, this sounds a bit unreal, but when living in a country with idiot politicians, where rich stealing from everybody = ok, everything is possible. Fuck the society.

Sounds awful. That place really must be horrible...do you have any chance to get away from that situation?

Think you could find the price of what the school does need and stuff it could do without, do some stuff with that?

I've seen so much shit done to youth and for some reason, this has made me angrier than I've felt in years. Abuse and oppression happens all over the world. It's a terrible reality of modern society, but we've all accepted that it happens and we're doing what we can to fight it and build a better world.
But this...this mindless, condescending disrespect toward people who have no legal voice with which to defend themselves, this reduction of parents' betrayal into a cheap crack about kids being computer-savvy...it's like watching a surgeon joke about life insurance while his patient bleeds to death on the operating table. The media's job is to protect society from oppression and they've drawn a clear line between the people worth protecting and the people that don't matter. How can they people sleep at night?

Not the whole tower. Take out the interiors, but keep it working. If it has Dual 4 GB RAM, take one 4GB RAM out. Most PC's have these neat onboard graphics chips, so nobody should notice a missing Nvidia. Continue this, and you'll have enough to make a bitcoin mining rig in notime.

Nah, I won't steal, sadly computers are too well supervised, but sometimes I seal IDE cables, SATA cables, BIOS batteries witch are found in teacher's desk.

Schools in my area last year were constantly requesting donations.

Of toilet paper. They couldn't afford even toilet paper and were requesting that people donate some.

RE: My school and money

My school likes milking money off of us. For example, my school has something called Share Hours, where they basically request the parents to come in and do labor for the school. A single-parent family has to serve at least 20 share hours, and a two-parent family has to serve 40 hours. If they don't serve enough (or any) hours, they have to pay the school money. They charge $20 for every hour you don't serve.

Let's say a single-parent family doesn't serve any. At the end of the school year, they have to pay the school $400. Yes, $400 just for not wanting/having the time to serve hours. For a two-parent family that doesn't serve any? $800 at the end of the year.

I'm not making this shit up. They expect parents to have the time to come down and do labor for them (since they want free repairmen, cleaners, etc.)? I'm sorry, but no. Some might have time, but others won't. My mom has no time to serve any, so I serve them for her so we don't have to fess up $400 for such a silly reason.

I often forget about the existence of the thanks button on these forums...

RE: My school and money

Even the same authorities that brown nose schools would have that place sued in a New York second if this were a public school. I mean it. My area passed a law that demands no schools ask for any sort of a lab fee and my school had to withdraw the cost of parking permits. It brings joy to me to see the school handing back money to someone who'd bought a parking permit. Defeated.

I bet your school is filled with selfish budgeters. Their stupid decisions are never checked enough. You all should stop donating money to them, so they learn some financial responsibility. I like that you steal from the place, too, for all it's probably stolen from you.

RE: My school and money

My school has about 30 computers with adobe design and office in computer room. Every room has a smartboard. Yet how are we poor? Those basketball fags. Sure they go to CIF every fuckin year, but when our american football team raised money, the school took about half of the money they raised! Baseball learned the pattern awhile ago, so they do all practice and fundraising outside of the school.

The basketball team? 1st class tickets to play in a non-mandatory round in Georgia.

Well fuck them. Only basketball likes that. Everyone know about this too.

War is stupid.
