RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

High school problems don't matter

Today my History teacher was talking about her group of students that she advises, and said something about how they were all coming to her with "life problems" and that's why she was late to class... and then she amended her use of the term "life problems," laughing a little and saying, "Well they think they're life problems now, in high school, in 5 years they won't be 'life problems' anymore."

Really? My problems aren't as important as yours just because I'm in high school? Nothing devastating or crazy can happen because I'm only a kid and don't know what "real problems" are? <<If I said all that to my History teacher she'd probably agree with me and say these are some of the best, carefree years of my life. I'm sick of people thinking that the only thing teenagers have to worry about is homework. It's not.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

RE: High school problems don't matter

I hate these kinds of teachers. They think that our probkems dont matter because we are still kids. And our "only" problem is homework.

Manicrose, would you kindly say to your teacher that she is a bitch that needs to shut up?

RE: High school problems don't matter

If they're like "boohoo i failed a test" then yeah, in five years it won't fucking matter.

Actually, in 5 years, most likely you won't care about any of your social problems either. But that doesn't make them unimportant or anything.

You know, it's like making fun of prisoners for being concerned about their gang membership, because, you know, once they get out of prison, that shit won't matter.

Life is good. Jeta është e mirë. Goingcrazy
Die lewe is goed.
Het leven is goed.

Zoidberg: What is it, already? What's the cause of your anger?
Leela: I guess I would have to say, I hate you!

RE: High school problems don't matter

Say if your girlfriend died and it was all going good, and you thought she'd be with you forever. If you was sent to AARC in Canada. If you was threatened at gunpoint to hand over your money. If your dog nearly killed you then went outside and was ran over by a van. Stuff like this happens all over the world to people of all ages, but people are told to ignore it and if they don't they are "weak" or "emo". But if you ignore the problem, the more it will grow and take over your life unless it is dealt with, so whilst ignorance may be strength and bliss, it is also blindness. Nothing overly bad has happened in my life, unless school and my lack of social life counts, but still, if I had a problem I'd rather deal with it, no matter how depressing it'd be, than ignore it.

RE: High school problems don't matter

Oh God I hear that all the time. It pisses me off when an older teacher thinks they're problems are much more important than everyone in the classroom. But I vent this out by telling them they are wrong, starting a massive argument, and getting the class out of a whole days worth of work. I am glorious.

RE: High school problems don't matter

My high school problems are unimportant to what is the adult public.
Their childhood problems are unimportant to my teenage self.
Soon, "youth" problems will be the first most trivial thing as I sit in my nursing home and waste away.
Oh, how truth changes... OR maybe only people.
