RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Not sure if that's how my school works, but ok.

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

Fairly light homework today. Nothing particularly difficult or easy, except that I have to fill out a worksheet to attract people to the Kalahari Desert, of all places. I mean, it's a desert in southern Africa! Who would want to go there?

RE: Blog Thread

The weekend, as you may have noticed, is finally here! Or at least, it feels like a long time to me. Just saw the movie Green Lantern. I must say, it may not have loads of substance, but it is good to see some DC Comics-based movies out there. Or perhaps that isn't a good thing. Forgive me for sounding like a hipster, but I do worry sometimes that the content of the comics may be diluted if it becomes too "mainstream". After all, directors probably don't appreciate the details of the various sci-fi universes as much as its fans do. Haven't participated in much activity on here lately. Anything happen that I should know about?

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

RE: Blog Thread

Meh, no answers. Guess I'll just look around and find out myself. One thing that really irritates me, I've discovered, is when my control panel tells me there are new posts in a thread that I subscribe to when I was the last one to post in it.

I used to go on a website called Tohla to just talk with people (the stringent rules on my computer's security system won't let me on Omeagle), but you can't really find good conversation partners more than once. So...anyone feel like chatting on here? Any particularly good threads for that?

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

RE: Blog Thread

Right now, I'm wondering how I can subtly kill my English teacher. Well, not that I'd actually do it (such pesky laws about killing people they have these days), but with the way she acts, there's not much farther she can push me until it actually happens. You know, I read a story on the Internet about these kids who put rat poison in their teacher's coffee and cupcake. I don't believe said teacher actually ate it, but they were all expelled.

It shouldn't matter to me, I realize, but that (insert whatever you believe the most scathing adjective in the English language here) teacher gave me a 75 on a test because I didn't know what graphic organizer she wanted me to write down. One might say that I should have payed more attention, but here's why I was clueless:

1. I was blissfully absent from English last Tuesday to take a national Latin exam, and so I missed the only time the harridan told our class about the organizer. There was no mention for the entire week, whether by her or by my twin (who happens to be in my English class).
2. The fiend didn't tell those who were absent about the organizer, nor give us a sample organizer, before or after the day. Thus, I had no idea it existed, until she told us to write it on the back of a quiz for a grade. This ties in to my next reason.
3. My teacher put it on her website, way down on the page, and expected us to magically know about and study it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Felt good to virtually let that scream out.

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

If you really must rat poison is actually a good way if you can cut them, since the rat poison has anti-coagulants and such.

I need to stop listening to my uncle.

Haha. So far, I haven't quite reached that level of desperation. I guess if I had to poison someone that'd be good to know.

Thought so. My English teacher disagrees, so I got an 85 instead of a 90 on an assignment. The grade I don't really care so much about anymore, it's why I got it that irks me.

He tells me the best way to kill someone, 'just in case I need the knowledge' and he tells me more and more disturbing stories about his past life. Like the detailed story about how he flashed his boss when he was drunk.

RE: Blog Thread

This week seems to have gone by so quickly. At least, it does to me.

My math teacher just got us all set up on the website Khan Academy. When I told my parents, they thought it was pretty cool. Ironically, when I first learned of the site and told my dad about it, he went psycho on me and said that I should never have a public profile on there and that I needed to be careful because there could be pedophiles and such on there. Irony at its finest.

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

Pedophiles... on Khan Academy, the online school.

Yeah sorry Baby Boomers but you should probably leave technology to this generation.

Yeah, I found that a little odd too. So I went ahead and did it anyways. Frankly, if the ultra-paranoid security system lets me on Khan Academy, it can't be all that bad.

RE: Blog Thread

Anyone on here a LOTR junkie? As in, read the books, seen the movies, played the game a septillion times? Me neither. Still searching for a decent copy of the last movie.

Yesterday was the MCAS Long Composition. At the mid-way break our grade received, teachers were constantly telling us not to talk about the test. Right...a bunch of seventh-graders who haven't spoken for hours, crammed in one room together, are expected not to talk about a major test? Good luck with that. And exactly how would one cheat on an essay? It's not as if a student could plagiarize an essay of the web, since no one knew what the prompt would be and there's no electronics allowed. Except for the IEP students who are exempted to type it. Makes no sense to me, that.

What's your dream prompt for an essay?

Personally, I'd love this one, which I found in a packet our harpy of an English teacher handed out:

"Identify some problems that exist in your school. Describe the problem, and give a solution to this problem. Explain why your solution is the best one."

I just about cracked up seeing that one. Pretty sure I'm going to have a little trouble fitting that into a measly four pages. Interestingly (perhaps ironically), the very teacher who handed that packet out is the one to whom I dedicated a thread about her awfulness.

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

RE: Blog Thread

Haven't been on in a while, sorry. Anyways, we had some more MCAS, and my English teacher was a general harpy to us. Why is it that so many good insults seem to start with the letter H? At least, the ones I know about do.

Went to the library, got some books. I'm really starting to become a fan of "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series. A few comic books, too, and "In the Forests of the Night". Now all I have to do is finish up an inverse operations/multi-step equations worksheet and a Latin poster, and I'll be free to read.

I'd put a pithy quote here, but I'd rather speak for myself.

My "Genetics" thread seems to be doing particularly well. Having a good deal of fun on Chatzy, but I had to get off to do homework. My parents will skin me alive without straight A's, and our term ends this Thursday.

Happy birthday to me! I've have to deal with a lot lately to wrap up this term, so I apologize for not being online. I asked for Skyrim for my birthday, but apparently I can't be trusted with a "mature" game. Something about drinking and sex, although my family owns The Sims 3, which has both. That was also the only thing I wanted. It seems that everything I set my heart on fails nowadays. Ah well.

I actually did end up getting Skyrim! The only problem is that I opened my presents late in the day, so I couldn't start playing and had to wait through a school day. Oh well. I also got a Dungeons and Dragons book, so that's been interesting to read.
