RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Bad grades = bad job
My dad just fucking pisses me off with this talk, I know that many people have succeeded without fucking degree and good grades, he keeps telling me that I won't succeed if I won't study all this bullshit.
How is it possible to succeed with so negative people around?

RE: Bad grades = bad job
My dad hes given me this talk multiple times. So has my sister, even. Shes a straight a AP senior who got accepted into Cornell. Yet she complains constantly about her schoolwork and how little time she has for herself.
Oh well, her loss. Ill just watch her live a miserable life.

RE: Bad grades = bad job
I don't know why people buy that bullshit. There are the examples, and with a bit of creativity...you can always find a job somewhere. Ask him what success is for him...I bet its something overestimated. For me success would be a small flat, steady income and enough free time for myself. For others success is a big house, a fast computer, a lot widgets, car and other bullshit. It may be possible you don't get the second kind of success, but if you can get the first (if you want it), who cares? It's your life anyways.

RE: Bad grades = bad job
I think it is possible somehow to get a nice job ... even with shitty grades. The question is always: Do you really need them? Or does the job you want to acquire, that interests you, claim some real skill? I won't give a fuck about grades after I have the job I desire (Implying I give a fuck now, which I actually somehow DO NOT).
I don't get it, grades are a shitload of work, for a shitload of almost nothing.

RE: Bad grades = bad job
I got sent to my school's guidance counselor yesterday. She thought I was depressed because my grades have slipped since the first symester. I'm way happier this symester than I was in the first, so I told her to suck it.

My guidance counselor brought up depression when he was talking to me about grades but only asking if I had it. He wasn't saying " This is what's wrong with you." Just, "This is a possibility."
He's the only adult at my school that I like because he doesn't have this entitlement that other teachers at me school tend to have that he's saving the world by telling me stuff, but he's genuinely caring and trying to help me.
