RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

Haha!
Mods give you "Warning" points, which are basically warnings given before a ban. Flaming is usually +5 warning points, Illegal activity is +10 warning points (though on SS we're pretty libertarian) and a minor spamming offense is usually +2 warning points. That's what it's like on most forums anyway.
You probably violated a minor/moderate rule that wasn't enough to ban you but enough to warn you. As for the reason, I'm not sure, you might have to PM a mod or admin to check on that.

You should most likely see a list of warnings given to you in the user control panel.

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

Ah encouraging suicide.

Some people would be happier dead, you gotta realize.

When pain > pleasure most of the time, suicide is the best option.

I mean I've considered it a lot but I've decided to give anti-depressents a try, and if those do work, yay, if they don't, I'm gonna suffer till the solution, illegal drugs, is possible again

also note that 1 warning point is 10% of your total warning which is pissing stupid for a system that words out of a hundred

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

I understand the thing about suicide not always being bad. It can sometimes be a totally valid option. But most of the time it probably isn't, and you really shouldn't encourage people who aren't completely 100% sure that it's the best option for them. Which is most people. If they're actually REALLY sure, then they won't need your help anyway...

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

No, the issue with always saying no to suicide is that with people who want to do it is bad

Because they most likely will end up using an ineffective method (like swallowing pills from the medicine cabinet) and end up fucking their life infinitely more.

If someone has thought about it for a while and has decided that suicide is the best option, I will help them do it effectively.

Jesus Christ, suicide a valid option. I never heard a psychologist telling someone that for their particular situation suicide is the best option. WTF???

Don't help people with suicide. Let them do it on their own. To me, it just seems like a dick move

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

Thoughts about suicide are the result of depression, depression is a mental disorder. Noone REALLY wants to commit suicide, deep inside everyone wants to be saved.

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

Of course many people want to commit suicide.

Constant negative emotion doesn't necessarily have to be sadness, it can be anything.

But drugs of any kind can only help certain people for a certain amount of time.

If the feeling is constantly there, suicide is the best option

I'm not against you, but I just want to ask if it is better to help someone by curing their depression rather than helping them commit suicide?

Agree! People who commit suicide are really not creative.

If people have made the decision to commit suicide, AKA making a thread about it, then I'll assume that they actually want to do it and I can't change their mind

Hmm fair enough. You fit the whole drug dealer/illegal arms dealer profile since they "provide a service, no questions asked, just for the money." However, what do YOU gain from this? I mean if you were dealing crack, you'd be making money on this. But you're dealing suicide techniques, what benefit is there? What if it was someone you cared about, would you still share that info?
Just curious.

You should encourage them to talk to someone or whatever (the usual suicide stuff) and if that fails, make sure they know the best way.

No, this is Patrick.

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

See, for every depressed person that commits suicide, the world is a better place.

There are too many people in the world as it is. Why not save the life of a happy world in Africa by ending your life and giving resources to other people.

Second of all, if you kill yourself, your problems will go away. For most people, life will always suck more than it is worth living. So why not end yourself?

And I feel satisfied seeing a person off themselves with my good work. It's much better than to have another whiny, pathetic human being that the world would be better off with dead.

Life sucks? Killing yourself is the easiest and probably the best solution.

I would have killed myself by now if everyone around me wasn't watching me 24/7 thus making a reliable suicide out of the question
Third of all, whiny teenagers that feel they need to die should do it. I'm saving them from a shitty life in the future.

Is this about that attention thread you made a few days ago? If it is, I didn't take any of what you said as offensive. I fear the void, so I wouldn't off myself, except if life got to be unrealistically harsh.

If you're reading this, I killed myself.

Mfw people fail at killing themselves. I don't mean to be insensitive, but if you can't figure out how to kill yourself it is probably because you are being half-assed and don't really want to die.

RE: Yo, why do I have a warning level?

If you are desperate enough and want to kill yourself quickly you will try the most accessible and easy method but it often ends up failing.

IE taking a lot of pills, etc.

Ever read the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath? She ends up trying many ways to kill yourself and ends up going to the hospital and having worse shit happen to her

^ Nope, never heard of it. Guess you're right though. I knew this one guy who offed himself after 2 or 3 years of planning and it worked the first time. I guess not everyone is that thoughtful about it.
