How do you learn a language?

Um, wie isn't a verb. And the dictionary DOES tell you parts of speech, and it gives examples of phrases and sentences in the entries. But yes, you probably still need something else, or a comprehensive dictionary, which would be fucking huge.

My mother suggests I use a dictionary to learn German, thing is though don't they only teach you the words, not the grammar? From a dictionary one would think "Ich wie du" would be correct instead of "Ich mag dich" from the German dictionaries I've seen because it doesn't explain what words to use in what context, but there again I've mostly only seen a mini travel dictionary thing and an app on my phone.

I learn grammar and everything from the book, I use dictionary only to check up the words I don't understand. But in some dictionaries you also have common phrases at the end of the dictionary which is also very useful, that's how I learned for example the english phrase "Once in a blue moon" It's also great to watch films and TV series in the language you want to learn. That's how I learned german and spanish.

I've mostly only seen small basic pocket dictionaries. Suppose I didn't think properly when writing that. Anyway when I was 12 and first started teaching myself German I thought "I like you" was "Ich wie du".

I also like to learn new languages and presently I learning French language. Learning a new language is not so much hard task. You have to be well prepare and try to learn Grammar of that language first. You can purchase book about that language or join language learning New language.

I am interested in learning French as I have many friends who can only speak in French. I am still catching up the words as a beginner. I am following individual French classes, watching French movies with English subtitles, in order to learn.
