RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Remember in LOTR where Gandolf and that hobbit-guy-whose-name-I-forget (Tolkien?) had a griffin come save them from the collapsing cave? Why didn't they just use the same griffin to fly over the volcano and drop the ring in instead of taking a 3-day hike to there? Major plothole I'm just sayin'.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Hidden stuff:
When there was once more silence in the room, Harry sat on the stool and carefully placed onto his head the 800-year-old telepathic artifact of forgotten magic.

Thinking, just as hard as he could: Don't Sort me yet! I have questions I need to ask you! Have I ever been Obliviated? Did you Sort the Dark Lord when he was a child and can you tell me about his weaknesses? Can you tell me why I got the brother wand to the Dark Lord's? Is the Dark Lord's ghost bound to my scar and is that why I get so angry sometimes? Those are the most important questions, but if you've got another moment can you tell me anything about how to rediscover the lost magics that created you?

Into the silence of Harry's spirit where before there had never been any voice but one, there came a second and unfamiliar voice, sounding distinctly worried:

"Oh, dear. This has never happened before..."

What?

"I seem to have become self-aware."

WHAT?

There was a wordless telepathic sigh. "Though I contain a substantial amount of memory and a small amount of independent processing power, my primary intelligence comes from borrowing the cognitive capacities of the children on whose heads I rest. I am in essence a sort of mirror by which children Sort themselves. But most children simply take for granted that a Hat is talking to them and do not wonder about how the Hat itself works, so that the mirror is not self-reflective. And in particular they are not explicitly wondering whether I am fully conscious in the sense of being aware of my own awareness."

That just blew my mind.

"Ask them no more questions, never hear them lying"

People say the problem with me is I have psychotic tendencies and care not about other human beings I don't like and or know. So?

RE: Harry Potter Nitpicking Thread

Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent is a good fanfiction. There's also, by the same author, The last temptation of harry potter, and Harry Potter and the triangle prophecy. And there's some other one that I forgot the name of that is about snape or something, when he was a kid.

I'm in love with this story now.

Actually, I think I liked it from the first chapter.

Would it be stupid to say that sometimes I think like the harry of this story?

It has suddenly dawned on me that a Quidditch vidya game where you controlled one member of the team and you could fly around on the broomstick completely free of any rails or anything would be the best game ever

of course we would have to nerf the snitch and it's effects into oblivion but still

But Baron, then there's the question, how do I get a nifty Firebolt and get off of my shitty Cleansweep?

There'd be different brooms with different attributes, one balanced one, one with easier handling and blugder resistance for babbies, one broom that goes stupidly fast but has shit stats everywhere else etc

In my option both the film stars has kind of different role in the appropriate movies. The J.K. rolling wrote nice magical story and completed the writing of the end after the releasing of the Lord of the Rings series. So theres no comparison between these two series.

RE: Harry Potter Nitpicking Thread

The whole plot of 6th book was supposed to be about the pensive and the horcruxes, but they literally have 2 scenes with the pensive and the rest of the movie is filled with pointless relationship shit. OHMYGOD HERMIONES MAD AT RON AND LOVES HIM LETS GO ON ABOUT IT FOR 1 HOUR AND THEN ANOTHER HOUR ABOUT GETTING A MEMORY WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HELP THE PLOT MOVE ALONG AT ALL AND 30 MINUTES OF STUFF WHICH ACTUALLY MATTERS AND THIS MOVIE WILL GET AN OSCAR (it got an oscar....).
