RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Animal Farm is only interesting once. I don't know how the English teachers stand it year after year.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: Animal Farm by George Orwell

1984 was better, but Animal farm was good. The painfully ironic thing about it is how he tried to take the story of the Soviet Union and make it as simple as possible (farm animals. seriously), yet most Americans still miss the point entirely and think it's a satire of "communism." Whenever I see some retarded Teabagger yelling about how Comrade Obama is turning America into Animal Farm, I'm never sure whether to go up and tell him that all of Orwell's books were basically Marxist, anti-Stalinist propaganda written by a dedicated socialist...or just stand there and laugh/cry.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Re: Animal Farm by George Orwell

So anyway yeah i liked animal farm, but it's not the best book ever to me. I read it because it was assigned in prison. The teacher announced what the next book was going to be so I went to the library and got a copy and read it that weekend. And then the teacher got all pissed at me, here's what happenededdd. We were assigned to read chapter 1 and then do a worksheet and the worksheet was like "wat du u tink wil hapun nekst?" and I was like, teacher i already read the whole book so why do i have to do this shit, and she goes, "Why did you read the book already! You were only supposed to read chapter one!" wtfbitch.

Re: Animal Farm by George Orwell

Fuck Marxism, Marx just wants to provoke the proletariat to fight the rich endlessly since there will always be stratification.

Facism <3 works better. Since instead of fighting it encourages the rich and the poor to be united under a mutal pride for their Countries culture. If the dictator is bad then there won't be pride and if there is no pride its not Fascism.

Dictators are super valuable because in Democracy and socialism everyone is always whining about who can gain the most personal power and very little gets done for the nation. IE Business in Capitalism sell out and move to foreign Countries instead of supporting their local culture

But because Fascism is more stable that means instead of people bickering about who has power they actually start to put their time in bureaucracy inventions and science. Creating a greater reward for those participating in that culture.

I would never have pride in the country. So there can never be fascism.

I read ahead in english classes and often get to the end of books before we are meant to. Instead of the teachers praising you for being a good reader they scold you for not following their grand plan. Noo

This, it is exactly what mine does, she told me to write the path of every single character and a list of figurative language or some shit over break. Fuck it, I'm just reading the book. And while reading she always stops and asks "what type of imagery are we using?" "what kind of figurative language is that?" etc. At least she isn't that bad and the people in my class are decent.

I already got halfway through it, it's interesting.

Re: Animal Farm by George Orwell

Yes i hate the analysis shit.

You're just putting labels, not really getting any new information.

my literature classes in high school, they would always show a movie of the book after we finished reading it. And then we did that with jurassic park and then the teacher was quizzing us on the movie instead of the book fucktard.

Re: Animal Farm by George Orwell

O mi god I just remember how bad I had it with this book (christian Private school) not only did we have to overanaylyz but we had to create a character web of all the traits each animal had.

20 sheets in total I remember staying up all night. I was 14 at the time mind you
