RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Dog popssible death

So my dog broke his leg pretty bad

He'll need a 2000 dollar surgery to fix it.

Is it wrong that I told my dad we could just get a new dog and save money?
People think I'm cruel but while I do like my dog it's just that.

RE: Dog popssible death

You posed this question on the wrong forum lol

My parents threw down thousands on my old dog for an injury and he died anyway.

Personally I probably would. I'd not get a dog and then not want to pay if something happened. Granted there has to be a decent chance for survival after the surgery.

It's not like this is a toy, you know. This is a living creature we are talking about.

Who am I? Who are YOU?

2000 is a lot of money. Money that could be spent elsewhere or saved.
I understand it's living but there's still a budget limit

Give him to a family that can be able to take care of the dog.

Not everyone can pull $2000 dollars out of thin air and that is a lot of money. Also, its just a broken leg and the dog is still gonna live from what I understand. Human nature 4 ya.

What the heck? My dog got hit by a car, broke and busted her leg. All we did was stitch it up and it was fine.

I smell a faint trollish scent.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

This. Why else would he post this if he doesn't care about the dog?

Dude. You buy a dog, it's not a toy, it's a LIVING ORGANISM. That means you should be prepared to spend money on it. I would spend $2000 on it, even if it means no food for a few days.

It's not right that pets should suffer because owners can't afford treatment... having a pet isn't a right but a responsibility. You've got to be prepared for things like this before you consider getting a pet.

If you can't afford to care for him, give him to someone who will appreciate him more than you do. He deserves a better owner.

That is probably the best solution - give him to someone else. My family use to have 2 german shepherds. Because we had trouble looking after them (even though we loved them dearly and fed them) we gave them to a farmer for free so they can live a better life.

RE: Dog popssible death

If it's only a normal broken leg then it should heal up fine, in the old days folks used to just tie a piece of wood to the dogs leg.

If your dog needs a leg surgery though I guess it's worse then just a broken leg...
