RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Anybody else hate thanksgiving?
Personally I hate it because all that stupid crap about pilgrims and Indians getting along... (I'm Native American).
Some people probably have their own reasons. What's yours?

lol
Just a few days off and I'll eat turkey, won't notice a difference otherwise. Few days off from skewl is good.

Yeah, the break is nice. As is the food. I'm going to Alcatraz on that day for a "thanks-taking" celebration.

Turkey is fucking delicious.

I enjoy the food, time with family, and the week I have off from pris.. Err, school.
I honestly don't give a rats ass about why the holiday exists or what it's about.

*raises hand*
I despise it only because of how annoying my family can be as well as all it is that happens is my mom bitching all day and trying to get the house clean, kissing peoples asses and all that. Trying to stay home at my grandmothers house while she goes.

I hate it because they used to force me to go with them for the stupid family gathering crap. My family would always talk to me about God...

RE: Anybody else hate thanksgiving?
I like Thanksgiving. I don't really care much for the origin of the holiday, but it's nice to be able to get together with the family. I live away from most of my family so a day like that, where we all get together... It's a great day.
Plus the turkey.

Dude. Mash potatoes = barely a vegetable. Turkey = shitty meat. I prefer chicken, pork or beef. And, in times of trouble, reindeer. (Yes, I have actually had reindeer jerky).

RE: Anybody else hate thanksgiving?
Don't know if i should hate or like thanksgiving, cuz this dosen't exists in my country. I think my school celebrates it, since it is a Chirstian school and all, but look what happens? NOTHING. No good food. No stay out of school for a while.
Cool, huh?

RE: Anybody else hate thanksgiving?
In my family it's the same as xmas except no exchange of presents. My cousin says a gay-ass prayer and then we eat. I like it better than xmas these days because the gift exchange has gotten totally lame. People just call you up and ask what you want, and if you say you don't care, they get you a wal-mart gift card.
