RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: Religion

So... basically...

Organized religion and forcing people to believe in something = bad
Spirituality and/or believing in something because it makes sense to you = fine
Manipulating people's beliefs for your own benefit = bad

It's pointless to argue about whether or not God exists. That's actually irrelevant. People can believe in whatever the hell they want as long as their belief doesn't require them to hurt anyone.

Regardless of whether God exists or doesn't, people with power will always find ways to take advantage of people's beliefs to manipulate them for their own benefit.

RE: Religion

I'm religious and my Religion calls to distance oneself when it come to materialism. It really depends which religion you specifically looking into. Media is the one who is brain washing people about wrong facts about the religion.l

RE: Religion

I wouldn't say it's the media brainwashing people due to the fact that well, I believe most people don't take commercials too seriously. And nobody forces anybody to watch television. I'm looking at religions that revolve around the concept of having a perfect, flawless, deity who must be obeyed or you would have to face consequences.

I'm not really looking at any specific religions, but, as said before, religions that revolve around perfect deities which are most, if not all, major religions (What I mean by ''major'' is religions followed by most people). I've actually read the Bible and many other religious-related things since I was once personally interested in the topic. I've seen b/s on the media, sure, but not as often as to be considered brainwashing.

Thanks for the reply!

Let people have their religion, let's not discriminate against those who freely chose it as their religion.

I didn't want to talk about other religions since I'm not so sure about what I'd be talking about. However all, if not most, revolve around the idea of a ''God'' or ''Gods'' that judge you, and an evil and good place after life as well as things you have to do and things you shouldn't do.

Also, I do respect people that believe in religion, but as people believe in religion I also decide not to believe in it and think I should be respected the same way religious people are. Not that I'm saying you have lacked respect for me, though. Also, people are born and raised with a religion, as said by StadiumArcadium and you're taught those beliefs so it's really quite hard to stop believing in such once you've been taught that all your life.

RE: Religion

Nearly 60% of the world's population are part of Abrahamic religions. Since most of the world follows Abrahamic religions I decided they were the most appropiate to talk about when speaking of religion.

It wouldn't have made much sense for me to write about a worldwide threat concerning religion about the religions followed by 20% of the population. But I am aware that other religions not revolving around a single deity who has power over everything, it just didn't seem as relevant to me.
