RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

So, the school levy for my district didnt pass yesterday. Pisses me off, escpecially since now we're going to state minimum requirements, so no extracuriculars, no arts, no music, no honors/AP/IB classes and no sports. I guess what really pisses me off is that my school is surrounded by $600,000 houses and golf courses, yet 67% of the people want to turn one of the best school districts in the state into one of the worst. Any of you guys ever have this problem?

My schools taxes are fucking ridiculous, and the place is still a shit-hole. They keep wasting money. That's what's pissing me off... They cut sports for middle school last year. Hopefully nothing worse comes of it.
my district wastes money too. its just i dont understand why people vote no on the levy thats not really that much more and screw us over for getting a scholarship with out any honors/AP/IB classes and ruin their property value when noone wants to live in my town because of the crappy schools. honestly, next year i could get a better education going to columbus public schools...and theyre ghetto as hell...

^ We haven't had to cut our AP programs yet... Luckily. It's fucking bullshit that where you live gets to decide what kind of colleges you can get into. Fuck. That. Shit.

Exactly, A damn good portion of tax money is spent on this and schools don't actually teach you anything. I am against forced public shooling also because of the financial side of it too, not just because I hate going.

The government tells everyone that schools just need more taxes to be fixed. Schools get plenty of money but they still look like shit. You will find gum under the desk, worn out textbooks with penis drawings in them and even shit on the ceiling in the bathroom. Its not because schools need more money, but because the kids don't respect the school and vandalise the shit out of everything. Not because kids are bad, but because they don't want to go to school and they shouldn't have to. And because they don't pay for school stuff, the taxpayers do. No amount of money will ever fix a forced public school system because, well, it operates by force.
Good news is there is no way in hell todays school system is going to last much longer. If it does, there will be a depression and our government won't have any tax money to take anymore.
Look at all the money we spend. You won't believe your eyes.

They'd probably be more effective if they stopped trying to throw money at the problem. It costs very little actual money to learn about stuff. The problem is that they have no idea how people actually learn...

i mean i feel like my district kinda needs these cuts so they realize how much money theyre wasting and what they really dont need to spend money on (like maintaining middle school tennis courts and stuff like that that is rarely used) i just wish they wouldve waited till after i left :/
