RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Dreams of school are the worst dreams. Stuck in boring places, wasting my time, unable to escape.

If it was a monster at least I could fight back and destroy it. But school...

I am learning though. I will learn how to destroy school. Smile

RE: worst dream you ever had

I was right in the middle of a end of the world scenario with Unicron about to eat the planet. Search lights were everywhere and there were minor earthquakes here and there. Me and my family were about to board this ship that would take us to China (the opposite side where he was to attack) but we stopped at the Home Depot first...

Then I woke up...

worst dream you ever had

I remember one where I was at Barnes and Noble, and a shooter came in and started robbing the place. A cashier stood up to him, but the robber shot him in the head. And the he turned and started walking towards me. He got up to about two feet away from me and had a very evil smile on his face before I woke up.

RE: worst dream you ever had

Being alive.

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

I occasionally have dreams that I'm at a school that isn't mine trying to find (and being late for) classes that shouldn't exist and running into people I hope aren't as rude in real life. I hate those with a burning passion.

worst dream you ever had

I hate a nightmare last night that 2 gunmen entered my school and started shooting the place up. I didn't actually see the gunmen, anyone get shot, and I wasn't shot in the nightmare, but I could hear the announcement alerting everyone and everyone panicking and running away. The teacher evacuated us to the gym. I was scared as shit and thought this was real. I tried getting out through a window but then I realized it was a nightmare. God, I hate those dreams.

I always tend to have a dream about going back to school once I get out of that hellhole for break. Every summer I have that dream, and I hate those dreams.

worst dream you ever had

I remember a nightmare from when I was little.

I was in my driveway when my cat came up to me, all friendly-like. I picked her up and pulled her front arms off. Her eyes then proceeded to fill with blood (they looked like they were glowing red) and she then lunged at me in that way that a lot of horror movies end (with the mouth in your face showing all the teeth and whatnot). I used to get it constantly when I was little and it scared the crap outta me. Glad I don't get it anymore as she's pretty old now (over 20 years old) and close to dying, probably.

worst dream you ever had

I had a bad dream a while ago, although it ended OK.

My parents were away, and they hired a babysitter. He was sitting on the couch and watching TV. My brother looked at him from the second story floor. Said babysitter picked up some sort of revolver and shot repeatedly at my brother. The bullets were weird-they were flaming orange, and while they weren't necessarily slow, they were possible to dodge. He then ran dry, picked up a stainless steel 1911, and fired several normal bullets at us before throwing the gun at my brother. He missed all that too.

I took the pistol that he threw at us (and felt one heck of a lot safer in the process). All my RL knowledge of firearm operation and safety also carried over into the dream, and somehow I got a couple more magazines or something in the process. My brother also managed to secure a larger, parkerized M1911, although he never used it in the dream. We also, I think, called my father.

My siblings and I then went downstairs and sat on the couches the babysitter was sitting in a while ago when he was watching TV. I saw that guy coming and emptied the gun's magazine into him. He told me to relax, that we was just going to cook food. He then went into the kitchen to tend to a pot, but slumped down and died shortly afterwards.

My father then came home. He had been to the police or something and told use the man didn't have any specific interest in harming us (shooting at my brother was just anger management issues, I guess), but he had murdered people previously. The food being cooked in the pot turned out to be muscle from a human tibia. I didn't end up feeling any remorse for shooting him to death for that reason.

At that point, the dream ended.

RE: worst dream you ever had

Not the worst dreams I've had, but a lot of nightmarish elements to them.

The first one involved the game Geo Political Simulator (anyone here played that game before?). I was moving around the world (you manage your own country) and sometimes a natural disaster will happen in a country (sometimes your country, but more often than not another country). In this version of the game, which was super-realistic, you could zoom in and see people dying and in despair. You could zoom in to see pedestrians anywhere, really, which creeped me out a bit.

The second one I was Ferris Bueller in this dream (I think this might have been a continuation of my first dream, being a pedestrian in a natural disaster), and I think he was commentating while this dream was happening. I was watching a TV when this very realistic looking news report shows up in which a trailer truck crashes into an ambulance, which either crashed into a train carrying hazardous materials or a secret warehouse with that stuff, which was near a high school. After that report played, I had the brief moment to control Ferris Bueller and I was just getting out of high school, and my mind told me "run, run!" and I ran as fast as I could. I kept running away until the hazardous explosion happened, and I could see a shit load of explosions near the high school, but I was unharmed. Then, the dream ended and I could see Ferris Bueller relaxed smoking a cigarette (a blunt or a joint?) with his legs on a table. He said something that I couldn't remember, I think it had to do with him surviving that accident.

RE: worst dream you ever had

I remember one of the worst dreams I've ever had that happened years ago as if it only happened yesterday. It was one of the most vivid dreams I've ever had.

*Warning* This might be triggering for some people.

The neighborhood I lived in at the time was completely abandoned. My parents were nowhere to be found, and I was a 7-year-old girl standing outside of the locked door of my house after searching frantically for them. Then, two guys, who seemed to be in their 40s, abducted me and forced me into their car. They drove me to some abandoned shack of theirs that was far away from the city.

They then proceeded to strip me of my clothes, bounded and gagged me, did stuff that would essentially be from some crazy bondage scene on steroids, and took photos of it all. They blackmailed me with them, told me I was their bitch, and said that it would be the end of me if I called the cops or told anyone about the incident. I never told anyone out of fear, and I was never allowed to leave. I was forced to stay with them. We traveled the country, and I was the bitch of not two, but many people, and many of their "buddies". I never saw any family or friends again, and I was never allowed to contact them.

I took this dream as a learning experience later on, but there are a few things I still don't understand. I had this dream when I was 9 years old (I started out younger in the dream). I have never been sexually abused, and at that time, I didn't know anything about sex, except for, perhaps, masturbation, even though I didn't know the word existed or even if the practice was a sexual act at all. So, my question is, how can I have such a vivid dream about something I've never heard of or experienced before at that time? Is it a phenomena of some sort?

I often forget about the existence of the thanks button on these forums...

If my writing happens to be too sporadic, too brief, or missing information, call me out on it.

RE: worst dream you ever had

I think those kind of dreams might represent some kind of fear that's always lurching in your mind. It might be triggered by some kind of exposure to that stuff. Perhaps there was anti-pedophile stuff on the TV that got on your nerves, for example.

Now that you mention it, it probably had an indirect link to the fear of being taken advantage of in some way. As for stuff on the telly, I don't remember seeing anything on pedophilia at the time, though I think it's still a possibility. Perhaps there was some other form of exposure, but I don't remember what it was. Maybe I witnessed something that loosely resembled what happened in the dream. And if it was that, I wonder how the specifics to pedophilia were brought out in the dream if the trigger had little to do with pedophilia itself.
