RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

RE: SAT Scores

I got a 1500 the first time, 1530 second time, 1490 third time, 1530 fourth time. I was trying to get a 1600 but after 4th time I gave up. There was a school I wanted to go to that would have given a scholarship if I got a 1600, but oh well.

Edit: I'm talking about just on the math and verbal sections, not the stupid writing/essay section. So 1600 would have been a perfect score.

RE: SAT Scores

1200/1600 I think that's equivalent to an 1800/2400 on the new tests

The new one has a 3rd section. It doesn't make sense to scale your score on the old one up like that.

RE: SAT Scores

I got a 2200 which was lucky for when I was applying to university because I didn't have real grades, but other than that it was kind of useless because the SAT isn't really a 'thing' in Canada like it is in the US.

Got a 6/12 on the essay part though lolol.

My brother got like the worst score possible on the essay part, but the rest of it was ok and his total score was like a 1900/2400.

RE: SAT Scores

http://teachers.sduhsd.net/lccounseling/..._chart.htm

It's basically assuming that I would've earned the same score on the writing portion as I did on the math and comprehension.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure if I had taken the new SAT I would've cracked at least 2000. I'm not bragging. It's just that I took the SAT a year earlier than I should've which meant that I didn't have as much math preparation as everyone else.

That and my English teacher basically taught us how to cheat on standardized tests. Essay sections are graded based on length not content. All you need to do is fill up the pages given to you and you get a top score. That's how I got straight 5's on my CAPT exam (CT version of the CAHSEE)

RE: SAT Scores

Yeah, I think the essay part is only worth like a third or so of the writing part.

The SAT math questions are things you learn in elementary school, though. Practice helps of course, but the questions are not over advanced concepts.
Or middle school.

RE: SAT Scores

Oh wait I was thinking of the ACT. The ACT math questions are just multiplication problems, sometimes in words.

Did you take some other test instead, like the ACT?

RE: SAT Scores

All the colleges around my area require ACT scores, so I never took the SAT.
I got 21 on the pre-act then a 24, 25, and another 24 on the real thing.

I got a 26 and was totally ashamed because my mom got a 28 and my aunt got a 30. I felt like the ACT was more a test on your ability to fill in bubbles at the speed of light, because the questions were all easy but there were SO MANY OF THEM and I always ran out of time.

Dude a 26 is a great score! Heck I think anything above a 20 is good, but I have low standards for tests like that. I agree that there are way to many questions for the amount of time given. Oh well. Shrug
