RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Curbing my cursing

Ugh. I'm getting tired of concealing my cursing in front of my sister. Sometimes I get frustrated playing a game and curse and she comes out her room and tells me "Ooh. I heard you curse." So fucking what?

I'm getting tired of that crap. Really am.

RE: Curbing my cursing

Unleash a barrage of curse words in front of her, she'll soon become desensitized.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

I've already told my little cousins (4, 6, 8, and 12) that cursing is a form of expression and that I do not care if they curse around me and that I will curse around them. It's cute when the four year old says, "ooohh fuckshit" when she gets annoyed hahaha.

UGH HOW DARE YOU SAY SUCH OBSCENITIES IN FRONT OF MINORS NOW YOU HAVE CORRUPTED THEM FOR LIFE AND THEY'LL BE CRIMINALS AND MURDERERS AND RAPISTS AND PEDOPHILES YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED

Isn't it illegal to say cursewords in front of, ooh, minors? I heard something about people getting arrested for cursing in front of "minors".

No it isn't illegal lol maybe if they were like, "DICK IN PUSSY ASS SEX ANAL RAPE BUTT FUCKING DICK CUM MONSTER".

But normal cursing like, "Oh fuck!" is not illegal in anyway.

RE: Curbing my cursing

For fuck's sake, your sister sounds like a fucking pussy. Just like Unschool said, cursing is simply a different form of verbal expression.

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly." - Albert Einstein

"Within a few years a simple and inexpensive device, readily carried about, will enable one to receive on land or sea the principal news, to hear a speech, a lecture, a song or play of a musical instrument, conveyed from any other region of the globe." - Nikola Tesla

My dad doesn't want me cursing around her because I might "influence her".

A lot of people don't want to hear that shit, and it's not hard to try to be considerate.

I'm not trying to say that the way people feel about cursing is right.

Like I said, people don't want to hear that shit; maybe they're wrong, but that doesn't look to me like it's going to change any time soon. So for now, depending on the company, I will refrain from cursing. I feel it's only polite.

Edit!
But don't let me make this thread about me. The point is: curse all you want, but don't expect people to be okay with it.

People are too sensitive.

lol

Anyway, it's pretty annoying that "she goes to your bedroom saying OMG I HEARD YOU CURSE" when you get pissed because of a videogame or something.

RE: Curbing my cursing

Some advice on what I have learned is that cussing is definitely an expression, but it needs to be controlled. While I don't want to tell you not to cuss during video game sessions, you don't want to cuss when you don't have to. Most people will judge you for it and while it "doesn't matter," I've also learned that life is about connections and you get them from people who respect you. Getting respect from people is a good thing and you can be compliant without being conformed. Personally, a curse word is holy to me. (Holy just means set apart if you didn't know Smile ) I only use them when I am REALLY upset. None of my friends hear me cuss, but when I do, they know that it is serious. They are serious words, so use them seriously. For me, a video game means nothing, so I would never cuss. If you want to make them common words, that is your choice, but the authority that I have when using those words will elude you if you use them commonly. While your sister (and most people) may just be immature (about cussing), I do want you to be able to see what I said and hopefully you will also be able to use them in a way that commands attention instead of simply relieving frustration. It is ultimately your choice though and I won't judge you for it. Smile

RE: Curbing my cursing

Curse words are sprinkled on my vocabulary. Which can be quite extensive. Sure... I restrain my cursing when substituting. I don't want to lose a job. If I am with friends or family I curse (not matter the age). It really depends on the situation. Mostly I curse though. Just a form of expression.
