RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

What'd you get for christmas?

I got a new laptop Biggrin

Better processing power or whatever (i'm not computer literate) so I can maximize Civ5 pleasure.
Keys are a little bigger so I make grammar mistakes most of the time, it'll take some getting used to.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: What'd you get for christmas?

From my dad and his new wife:

PS3 (I didn't even drop hints at wanting one, mainly because I didn't. Why he got this is beyond me. I'm currently listing off all the awesome high-end airsoft shit he could've gotten me with the money he spent on this and the accessories. Currently I'm at a gas blowback sidearm, all the extras I'd need for it, and a CA G36 w/tightbore barrel, extra mags, short mock silencer, and ammo)
Two games for it
Extra controller or some shit
WWII Army OD sweater (Kinda cool I guess)
Bunch of candy and snacks
Socks (Everyone always gets socks)
Short sleeve dress shirt and some other long sleeve shirt
A couple other things I don't remember

From my mom:
Bunch of food, popcorn, Oreos, and chips for example
NHL Winter Classic hoodie
Long underwear (will come in handy for the next winter op, on the 9th)
Soap
Pajama bottoms
Book on the battle for Guadalcanal
Toothpaste & toothbrush
More socks
Some other stuff that slips my mind

From my sisters:
DVD on WWII
Hat with earflaps which is warm as hell
Starbucks coffee drinks

From my mom's friend:
Fuckload of assorted candy
$25 gift certificate to Amped Airsoft (best store to ever be on this earth)

Overall I'm happy, though I would much rather have the $450+ that went for the PS3 and all the shit for it in cash rather than in a game system and stuff for it I didn't really want and probably won't use very much.

Same as this guy. Except I didn't get the balance board and I can't surf the web with it yet (bootleg intrwebs isn't strong enough for it.) Those I have to buy myself when my tax rebate comes in.

The best gifts were a knock-off giraffe-patterned Snuggie, two pairs of slippers, an outdated copy of The Teenage Liberation Handbook, some kind of tricked-out version of Sorry!, and a toy baby that says a prayer in Spanish when you press its tummy (that last one was self-gifted).
