RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Re: Being offered a drag on a cigarette

The only problem I have with cigars is that they leave an unmistakable stench that is more obvious than anything else you can smoke.

Re: Being offered a drag on a cigarette

I was offered a drag again. Jesus, these people are laid-back. They fit the exact stereotype of a "bad crowd" that D.A.R.E. pounds into our heads in school, but they're actually pretty cool. They didn't try and force anything on me, hell, two of em smoke weed and discouraged me from smoking a cig.

^ Typical in my position.

Everyone I know who smokes discourages others from doing it. And most of them are pretty young. Teens and what not...

Re: Being offered a drag on a cigarette

Just take it man, You won't get addicted on your first cigarette, in fact you can smoke one every 2-3 weeks and still not be addicted. All that crap they give you in health about becoming addicted ON YOUR FIRST CIGARETTE is total bullshit lies.
Do it just to experience it and know what it is like. It's nothing too great but I'm one for getting all sides of the story before I decide something. Seems kind of stupid to judge something you've never tried eh?

Smoking feels pretty good TBH. Especially the nicotine buzz you get when you start smoking.

Re: Being offered a drag on a cigarette

Yeah, The buzz is really nice. Don't smoke menthol or any of that nasty shit. It's even more unhealthy and the taste sucks. Though any pre-packed cigarette doesn't taste too good anymore due to the FSC shit. My uncle finally decided to quit when they did that. If I had to pick a brand though, Marlboro reds. Shits the tops.

Cigars are fucking classy, if you rule out the horrendous smell.

Cigar smell is awesome. Also, what is FSC? I smoke for four years and I don't think I've ever heard of that.

Cigarettes are more classy than cigars if you do it right.

I mean look at this shit, That is fucking class. I have this hanging on my wall because thats just how classy and awesome the rat pack is.

people these days don't do it with any fucking class. No cigarette cases, no zippos, no kick ass stand up ash trays next to your couch. It's lame, If your going to kill yourself do it with style.

Fire Safe Cigarette they add some kind of shit to the paper that makes it burn slower, makes it more likely to go out. which is why you have to keep relighting in the wind and why you get that weird taste with your cigarette.

Sometimes I just light mine for the smell...

Also, I find that smoking one after a few weeks does it for me. I used to go to a place called "the cig house" where this guy would import shit and sell it to underage kids cheap. This was before it got raided by police. Sometimes you got lucky and he had marlboros... Dangerous area though... stay in there too long at the wrong time and be prepared to run.

Shops won't sell to under 18's/21. I think I remember seeing a sign saying something about 25 or over too for purchasing alcohol somewhere... ridiculous.

Where do you live? I never heard of the age for buying alcohol being 25. I was in the US and I saw the 18 signs for cigarettes but still had no problem buying them. Was 16 at the time.

I fucking hate all the "TOBACCO FOR MINORS IS BREAKING THE LAW" signs. So once you turn 18 it's magically okay to inhale burning tar?

It's totally 100% legal (In most places) for minors to smoke. It's just illegal to buy/sell/give them to minors. lol
