RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The question that everyone who games online has asked
How the fuck do I lower my ping?
For the past few days, my ping has never dipped below 220, and emptying entire magazines into zombies can take up to 2 seconds to have any effect on them at all. There have been cases in which I have literally lit zombies on fire one second, and then the next they're magically extinguished and beating the shit out me. This makes playing on any difficulty above Normal a huge pain, and Survival/Versus are near unplayable.
Also, inb4 Baron makes some half-assed post like "it's because you're a jew lololololo".

I believe it's a combination of shitty interwebs and/or computer.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
Bullshit, I can run L4D2/Clear Sky Complete/HL2/etc on highest possible settings with no problem. I also have a fast internet connection.
Then again, maybe I'm just going through another shitty ping period. I've had it be in the forties and the hundreds in the same day.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
Is anyone else using your connection? Depending upon what router you have you may be able to go in and set the Quality of Service so that you recieve the most priority. If that isn't possible, try asking the other people who use your connection to not use so much bandwith?
Or maybe it's because you're a jew lololololololololololololo

My two sisters use the router often, that may be why.

Interesting, how would I go about this?

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
Erm you join low ping servers? isn't that the ONLY solution, the solution gamers have been using for years and years, or am I missing something here? I can't play online games properly unless I join Australian servers because otherwise the ping is too high

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
1) Join servers close to you.
2) Make sure nobody else is browsing or downloading on your connection.
3) You're not using some kind of wireless internet, are you? Those usually have shitty ping even if they're fast for everything else.

I try.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
That test just tests your connection speed under normal net browsing circumstances like downloading stuff. It would be a reasonable test for gaming ping if you were the only person who used the connection.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
Whenever I do anything I receive virtually no line jitter and a ping of 20-30. And I'm on wifi.
Dat quest highspeed
Also, I don't experience ping as high as what you say unless I test through shanghai. So something is fucked up with your internet.
Had to move on. Account is dead.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
When I get home I'll see bout finding a few of the programs I have that reduce ping, mostly by making you system basicly focus on nothing but the game.
It also helps to know if your sisters are downloading anything, normal browsing shouldn't affect you very much.

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
My sister does seem to be watching episodes of Glee or whatever the fuck is it she watches quite often, so if she downloads them as often as it seems that would make sense that bandwidth is being hogged.
The bottom line is, SPY SAPPIN' MAH BANDWITH

Re: The question that everyone who games online has asked
Aha, my sister is in NYC this weekend, and my ping has never gone above 130. It could be better, but now zombies don't hit me from 10 feet away. My suspicions have been confirmed.
