RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Re: What are you?

Libertarians can be quite conservative depending on the subject at hand.

Libertarian sumup: Liberal on social matters, conservative on ecconomical matters.

I'm always tagged as a liberal though. No way do I identify myself as a Republican or Democrat though.

Gay rights as an exception to the liberal mind? Oh come on...that is weak.

I was talking about conservatives on social matters, i.e. sex, race, sexual preference ect.

Ever wonder why, no matter who you vote for, you still get fucked over?

Hey, we should all take the Political Compass test, like we did the MBTI. Hmm... let me see where I put that...

I'll go first.

Some of the questions I didn't like because they asked things like "Should the Government regulate x" - NO! It shouldn't, but SOMEONE should, but how will the test know that's what I meant? Rolleyes Some things should of course be regulated, but not by the Government. The less the government interferes, the better.

Oh well, it's just a test.... just a test.... Razz

I consider myself to be quite liberal in general though. Biggrin

you can be both, it just depends on the issue. liberals generally favor change in society, which i agree with, but they also tend to want the government to be too invovled in people's lives. the only problem with the alternative is that the private sector (corporations) is often just as bad. so it really depends on the issue.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -3.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.41

Pretty close to Gandhi and the Dali Lama. I dig that. ^^

My friend got a chance to talk to the Dali Lama on some high honor school trip type thing. I'm sooooo jealous.

Let's do the time warp again!

me: mentions nuclear weapons...
other kid: well, at least we never actaully used them.
me: yeah we did. remember hiroshima?
kid: huh?
me: you know, hiroshima and nagasaki. the two japanese cities wer nuked in WW2.
kid: SERIOUSLY? we actually used nuclear weapons against a country?

(this was middle school. sad.)

Oh that's nothing. I have a girl in one of my classes right now who thinks the South won the American Civil War. Seriously. I think I mentioned this a while back. She's from around here (Georgia), and she had no clue. Good thing she's pretty.

I got nothin'.
