What should I do?

Okay, I have always hated school. More than anything, actually. I want to be a writer. I want to write books, I love to write. I have also been reading some things on this site, and I need some advice.

Bassicaly, I already get shity marks in school (In grade 9 I failed math, and this year, grade 10, I will probably fail at least two more). Yeah, that's how bad a student I am. It is already impossible to get into college or university. It just can't happen.

But see, that's where I'm in pain. My whole life I imagined going to a second education, and that has all been shattered. I know, I should just "try harder" or "study more". I just don't fit in school! Me + school = oxymoron!

So....now what? Everything I planned on is not going to happen, and what I REALLY want to do in life has nothing to do with school, and I could be writing books instead of school...help! I am stuck in a tight, tight knot, and I can't get out. I can't quit school entirely, my parents wouldn't let that happen. Besides, I need to pass highschool and get my deploma, but it is too full of bullshit, and the more time passes, the less I want to be in school.


What should I do? I can't drop out, I can't get good marks (No really, I can't, and I am not a drug addict, either), and I simply have nothing else to turn to. What sould I do in my sutiation? I am sure many others are in the same situation.

Hej and u think that u have a problem( well... actually u do) but what will u say about this:I HAVE 20 HOURS A WEEK MATH=(.We have tests every week and we study advanced MATH.GOD i tell ya even in vacantions our teacher gives us homework that i cant write even if i have theWJole day.Plus my parents dont let me giv up that class coz they want me to go to college e.t.c.So i just surrender.I tell ya just do your best to pass and do what u want to do with your life coz when u get older u will want those days back

even though that's not entirely what I meant. basically, if your parents are pressuring you, and if they really really really won't listen to you no matter how many times you tell them what you want to do, then maybe you should just try hard enough to scrape through school, but keep writing. never stop writing. start writing a book and publish it bit by bit on a website (or deviantart.com). start building a name for yourself. if what you write is good enough to get published for real, the publishers won't care whether or not you went to college, or what marks you got in school.

and either way, it's good to have a "Plan B", for in the meantime until some publisher notices you (unless your website becomes really popular or something). otherwise you'll be really miserable while waiting.

Also, explore the possibility of an alternative program, if there is one. As for colleges, I teach in one. You may not have a chance to go to Harvard or something, but the community colleges don't care as long as you have a GED or the equivalent (another possibility). Of course, idiot that I am, I'm assuming that you are in the U.S. I'm probably wrong about that, correct? In any case, continue writing and also be sure to read things that you really like. Remember this: Adequate writers borrow. Great writers steal things outright. Figure out what you can do (your voice); figure out what you like about the writing of others (their voices); and then work really hard to determine how you can make those other voices your own. Don't imitate, elaborate. Don't repeat, create. I hope this helps.

In the end, if you have no choice, stay in school. Get a tutor, if you can. Keep trying. If it doesn't work out, fine, but no one will be able to say you werent' willing to give it a go.

i wouldnt do that. my friend has homeschooled for a year, and he didnt learn enough to be able to go onto 7th grade, so he had to do more homeschooling during the summer.

well i put try enogh to pass so you can make a good living if you cant make a living writing. but other than that follow your heart. if it says "fuck school" then thats what will make u happy. its about what u want... its your life and nobody elses so do with it as u please. howver like i stated above it would be a good idea to stay in school but htats just my opinion. do what u think is best for you. i got my fingers crossed for ya

i'm in the same position you're in. if i dropped out, my parents would make my life a living hell. I say you just put up with their shit until you can get out of there or if your parents are understanding just try to get drop out. As for the writing for a living, i suggest you keep at because if it is what you really love and you put lots of time to getting good, i bet that you could make a living doing it. the part that really gets me is that even though i hate school so much, i just can't seem to quit it because of all the shit i'd get from people down the road about how i'll never amount to anything. Just keep in mind that you're not the only one in that position. lol misery loves company

If you drop out, people will be less agreeing to give you a job that will pay so you can make ends meat. I don't mean to be a nag, but think about your future. Life will be a lot simpler if you just go with the flow, and once/if you graduate, you will have a better record, because at least you went through it. I think you should try to pass the 10th grade, you'd be surprised.
