RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Iraqis

I wonder why every time a few Americans die in the war in Iraq, they alway get news coverage, or some story saying what happened. And why nobody's thinking about, or care for that matter, about how many Iraqi people have died, too. This issue was brought up when I read the article at the bottom of my post. It shouldn't be how many Americans die, but just how many innocent people in general do.

Quote:"More than 10,000 Iraqis - the vast majority in Baghdad - have been killed in the past four months alone," Taylor wrote, "a figure that would send shockwaves through the international community were it in any other part of the world."

it's probably because if people in the US knew just how many people were dying, they'd start to feel sorry for them and start to doubt the whole war thing (sure, they're doing that already, but not in sufficient number yet)...

so basically, they want people to feel for the soldiers dying more, so that they'll subconsciously support the idea of more Iraqis dying, because, after all, it is "they" who kill the soldiers Rolleyes

hey, if the government didn't let reporters view the coffins of our soldiers do you really think they give a crap about the iraquis? we used cluster bombs and white phosphorus in cities!

by accident. right. here's a question, if we have all these smart bombs that can fly down a chimmney or whatever, then why are our missiles going off course and blowing up villages? and why the FUCK are we using cluster bombs in highly populated areas? and how come some of our missiles didn't even hit iraq, they went off course into syria. if it's an accident caused by gross incompetance, it's still not okay.

cluster bombs on highly populated areas is usually because foe canot be determined from frendly so a carpet bomb would be most efficeint. smart bombs are only good if we have men on the ground lazer dezignating them. as for missiles going off coarse i dont know about that. but i can garentee that 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time that doesnt happen. so why do we only hear about tragedy? because tragedy sells

dude, if you can't tell who's friendly in a crowd of people you don't just kill them all! there are women and children in those cities! and missiles fail a lot more than that, you're info is completely wrong.

Only if you aren't responsible for causing it.

It only sells on the black market then.

This whole war is weird. There's a whole mix of religion and idealology over there. You can't come in and settle a war of ideals with the use of weapons. Well...I suppose you could but I'm pretty sure that would be immoral to an extent.

Nobody is going to win this war but I'll bet you anything the media spin at the end will say differently.

Soldiers in Iraq aren't doing the most damage to civilians. Most of the deaths are caused by the Iraqi resistance and sectarian violence. You can argue that invading was the catalyst, which it was, and you can argue that it was stupid to invade, it was, but the soldiers aren't killing many civilians at all.

My theory is that the Global War on Terrorism was started by the Gulf War.
  • 1) The US invasion of Iraq in 1990 to help Kuwait extremely pissed of those in the area and Muslims in general. Not only is the US meddling in their affairs, but they put thousands of heathen troops into the Holy Land! It is the utmost sacrilege.
    [/list:u]
    • 2) The US gives weapons and training to the mujahadeen, of which Usama (not oh-sama) bin Laden and many future Al Qaeda members are.
      [/list:u]
What does that equal? Pissed off + guns = hurt

(I know there were many more political things going on, but I think this a simple explanation for what happened.)

In the interest of fanning the flames of war hating... I have counted eight wars or conflicts going on because of this War of Terror:

      Afghan Civil War
      Waziristan Conflict (Pakistan)
      Insurgency in Saudi Arabia
      War in Iraq
      Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan/War in Afghanistan
      OEF-Philippines
      OEF-Horn of Africa (East Africa)
      OEF-Pankisi Gorge (Georgia)

      93 93/93,

      Kirby

Oh no, BigWolf, I understand what US soldiers have been doing. Horrible acts of violence and depravity, but they've still done less than the other guys. I just get annoyed when people never look at the whole picture.
