RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Pretty amazing.

There's not a whole lot to say about it...I just got out of the theatre twenty minutes or so ago and I'm trying to process an interesting review but even I'm sort of left a bit speechless. Except..."interesting".

Let's do the time warp again!

"good-interesting" or "can't-think-of-appropriate-word-to-express-disgust-interesting"?

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Spambot Kill Counter: 33
Spambot Kill Counter as Spambot Hell's Devil: Countless

Buying a high powered computer: 500 bucks
Getting gift wrap: 10 bucks maybe
Seeing the horror on that special someone's face once they tear off the gift wrap and see a Windows 98: Priceless.

I saw Children of Men today and it was amazing. It was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. The Departed and Flags of Our Father were pretty good but they didn't draw me in like Children of Men.

A hand held camera was used throughout the movie and the cinematography is very good but during some scenes a steadicam would have been better. Children of Men has the overused but stylistically appropriate washed-out look and the CGI was pretty impressive. The last part of the movie has really awesome scenes in it. I don't want to spoil what they are. Let's just say "urban fighting".

The two main characters, played by Clive Owen and Claire-Hope Ashitey, were pretty flat and the acting wasn't the best but much of the story telling is incidental or taken from the environment, e.g. the way the illegal immigrants are treated. Michael Caine is better and does the best performance he's done in a while.

A few things I liked are the use of Banksy's art, the pig floating over Battersea Power Station, and the use of In the Court of the Crimson King.

I'd give Children of Men an 8.5/10.

I thought it would be more of a drama but there is a lot of action in it. One thing to note is that the main character never picks up a gun. He smashes one guy in the face with a battery and hits a guy with a car door, but that's all the violence he does.

What, the washed-out look of Behind Enemy lines and saving Private ryan? I love that look, very gritty.

It's not as washed out as, say, Band of Brothers.

You know what impressed me coming out of the movie.

There was a point in the movie when I thought, "Damn...whoever has the job of sound effects did a hell of a great job."

I didn't say anything about it because I'm weird and overanalytical about things like that but then my Mom was driving me home and she commented on how the background noise was really good and believeable.

So there's that.

I really liked all the other attention to detail like the commercials about not taking fertility tests being a crime and such. All well done.

Let's do the time warp again!

Commericals like the ones in Robocop (The sunscreen blue girl one), or ones on television in the movie?
