RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Crazy shit in Arizona

A congresswoman gets shot and critically injured and six people, including a Federal judge and a 9-year-old girl, get shot and killed. The sheriff is criticized by conservatives for calling Arizona the "Mecca for prejudice and bigotry," and the Westboro Baptist Church is, of course, preparing one of their sick little demonstrations at the funerals. The shooter was obviously unstable, but ties to a racist anti-immigration group are suspected.

Look, I know I've been called paranoid in the past and sometimes it was for good reason, but how many isolated incidents does it take to make a trend? I'm being completely serious now: I honestly don't think that a country this ideologically divided can sustain itself for much longer. Something big and bad is on its way, maybe not as dramatic as a civil war, but it's hard to imagine that this situation will resolve itself peacefully. Conferences and debates aren't going to accomplish shit when democratic politicians and little kids are being gunned down. The big question, of course, is what do we do now? Trust the government to keep us safe (since they've always done such a wonderful job of that in the past...) or prepare for the worst?
I don't want to live in a world where speaking a certain opinion about health care reform means you have to lock your doors at night and keep a gun under your bed. But even more than that, I don't want to die. Seems like America is at a sort of crossroads here. Any thoughts?

Re: Crazy shit in Arizona

Remember reading this article yesterday on yahoo and thinking the same thing.
I never believed in the government giving a damn about protecting anybody and if shit really does start to hit the fan then the government will do what it can to hold on to its power and remain in control which means they'll start destroying more freedoms, monitoring more and even bringing out worse than the patriot act could have ever done but maybe that will make it worse and a nation itself can't stand when its own citizens would turn against it.

Still I guess the quote rings true..

Politicians will respect you, Politicians will acknowledge your power when they see a round flying through their windshield and shredding into their flesh. That will get their attention.

This event is just a small tip of the iceberg but it has the potential to cause more ripples.

Re: Crazy shit in Arizona

Ripples, maybe, but in whose pond? Hate groups have tripled in the last few years. Right-wing extremist rhetoric is heard on mainstream TV. Anti-immigrant militias are drawing in new recruits. Neo-Nazis marched through downtown Phoenix in support of Arizona's immigration law and nobody except a few black bloc anarchists did anything to get in their way.
The plain and simple fact is that the dark, ugly side of the American far-Right has exploded in the wake of recent political developments. They're growing, arming, organizing and drawing in the kinds of people who aren't going to wait around for some moderate conservative to give them orders. And what has the Left done in response? Made fun of misspellings on Tea Party protest signs. This is crazy. A vast armed network of unstable quasi-fascists is growing on American soil, and the Left has buried its collective head in the sand and pretended that this can be solved by watching Jon Stewart and commenting angrily on Huffington Post. It didn't stop Oklahoma City back in the 1990s and it won't stop this. People need to wake the fuck up.

Re: Crazy shit in Arizona

By ripples I mean more will stand up and do things the same way this guy is doing.

Yes they need to but you know how they are.
They won't do anything until the dark reality overshadows them(the fact that its in their faces isn't enough) and they'll try to wait on the government to save them but the government will make it worse.

Thing is how do you fight opportunism or ideas?

The Anti school movement isn't a good example.

Re: Crazy shit in Arizona

Because, as we all know, an isolated incident in which a politician is a target of murder will trigger a civil war, right? I mean, that's never happened before, right?

America isn't nearly divided enough to trigger anything violent.

Okay, now that is bullshit. A full-blown civil war, no, at least not right now, but anything violent? Definitely.

His death was part of a global anarchist campaign to kill the head of every industrialized state. Not only was there was a backlash against anarchist radicals, but this took place at a time of enormous tension between labor and big business that did turn violent on several occasions. Kinda proves my point, actually.

I'm not saying that this one incident will cause large-scale violence. But it's part of a pattern. The guy flying his plane into the IRS building, guns at health care rallies, mainstream Republican politicians talking casually about a "Second Amendment solution," widespread threats and vandalism towards progressive politicians leading up to the midterm elections, riots in Phoenix, the Hutaree arrests, the exponential increase in extremists groups...we can't just keep calling these "isolated incidents" anymore. They aren't formally connected but they show a shift in the way politics are being done. Either it stops right now, which seems very unlikely, or ends the only way that something like this can end. It'll get worse before it gets better and I don't plan on being caught sleeping when it does.

Don't start that shit, we don't want to get arrested. The aftermath of a political assassination attempt is never a good time to display one's sense of humor.
However, and some of my ISO friends can back me up on this, it might be a good time to start seeing more "Health Care is a Right"-style bumper stickers in the parking lots of gun shows, and fewer "Better Dead than Red/Bush Cheney 4Ever."

The left needs to arm up and get more violent? Jesus this is the first time I have commented seriously in months guys, but I really got to get my opinion out. and before I start, no, I never was serious about wanting civil war, it just got lulzy buthurt rage.

Yes we are seeing buildups in right extremism, and you know who is left affiliated and WILL arm up against this and we WILL see a response from them that we DON'T want? The government. Yes, the government. Yes we need healthcare, but is that really a "left" thing or a moderate thing? Look. We have TSA insanity rape security now. Internet security policies and website seizure popping up everywhere. The smear campaign of Julian Assange. This seems more and more like the kind of government embracing all the negatives of the left. We have been so concerned with which political party will handle the economy best and just turned out head when they start fucking with our civil liberties. The violence erupting in the south is the perfect excuse for them to keep pushing the agenda of internet control. the next thing you know free speech wont apply of its hate speech, so they can "crack down on far right militiamen". we are going to see a massive buildup of government involvement in the south in an attempt to quell the violence, and that will only give more power and more volunteers to arm up for this extreme right buildup. The left, moderate, and right and are going to be caught in a crossfire of authoritarian police/military and extreme right. there is no place for normal people in this fight, the south is a time bomb and its ready to explode. they get involved, it gives the government more chances to push the constitution out the door in the "protection of its own people". My advice? if you live in the south
GET THE FUCK OUT

Of course, we cant just stand by and let our country rip itself apart into either an authoritative hell or conservative Nazism state!
So, if we want to level the playing field, we need to actually have motivation to get people in the first place. lets be honest, the left has had it easy for a while now, and they have slowly been getting what they wanted for years. they are more easily satisfied, and worst of all, they typically find violence to be a bad thing. which is our biggest weakness. Can't fight against our own government and well armed rightwing militia without wanting a fight can we?

thats why in order to effectively fight off this threat you would need to get the government to start oppressing the left first. this is where it gets... dirty. leftests would need to bomb a church and have that bombing linked to marijuana growers. get the government hard cracking on weed. they would need frame minorities for setting fire to a corn field. the key would be provoking the government and then causing them to fuck up. when they do enough, then the left can start burning government buildings down all over the coasts with mobs at the back. what would that bring? more government attention. more crack downs. this brings more followers to the new lefts side, and with the governments attention away from the south, they get less. the key is getting. the government. involved. they pay more attention to the south, they get more supporters. thats how this will work. the same way it does in Afghanistan. we are no more civilized than they are, people are just people. they fight for their home. soon america will be the new Vietnam. It wont be a revolution, it will be an insurgency.

but here is the problem, with less attention focused on the south the right extremist will have the opportunity to seize control of certain areas bordering mexico. in many areas it would be safe to assume border control will be shot to hell, and the right militia will be monitoring areas of the border. obviously, this would be an opportunity for drug lords to get past a chink in the borders armor. now, the south can be retarded and fight the incoming drug smugglers head on, thinning their forces, or they can get over their retarded sense of white power and ally with them, thus giving the right control of drug entry into america and yielding huge profits for them, which would be bad bad bad. hopefully they wont be able to get over their racial hate, god help us all if the retards get smart.

wow i over analyzed this to hell. anyway, I'm buying a gun and moving up north this summer. I dont like where this is going and im letting my train of thought scare the shit out of me. oh yeah, and i will be sleeping with my doors locked and gun under my pillow.

inb4 so much hate
