RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

stem cell research

i think that this could actually help our country rele well

everyone knows bout the stem cell research i presume

its where there taking the stem cells out of unborn babies and ambilical cord from when u are born so that if anything happens to u such and gettin paralized , diagnosed with cancer , and any other harmful disease and or mishaps that they can take the stem cells and stick them next to ur and wait a while and the will alll connect together and u will be fine

this is great cuz this can cure cancer and stuff

but the only problem is were also killin unborn babies while doing this and thats even worse

but were tryinn to fidn a way to get the stem cells without killing any one and it takes to long to wait for the cord

does anyone else think this is gewd or is it just me???

Its impossible to kill something unborn.....

Rephrase that as to saying...Preventing the babies from being born.

There are ways to get stem cells that aren't through abortion. Many parents are choosing to keep their childs cord blood just in case, and we have stem cells in fat, mammary glands, and even in the nose. Yes, the nose. Meaning we don't have to abort fetuses to get stem cells.

I guess they could take it from dead family members but they'd have to do it really quickly. It's like organ transplant except with the small amount of stem cells they die off more quickly. There is a 50% chance that a parent and a child have matching stem cells and a 25% chance that two siblings have the same stem cells.

u dont have to have matching stem cells though thats the beautiful thing bout it

all they have to do is be similar

my great grandma on my grandmas side she can give me stem cells if she died because i have similar ones to her

i can get it with anyone whos blood in my family

You share 50% of your DNA from your parents. But it is a random 50%. So siblings only have 25% same DNA.

Parent: 50%
Children: 50%
Sibling: 25%
Grandparent: 25%

it dont matter u just have to have like the tiniest percent of similarity and u could donate stem cells when u die or if ur familys members crippled

Yes. But tiniest similiarity is not the same as chance. The chances of being close enough aren't the same.

Anyways, we share 60% of DNA with bananas.
