RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Argh! Gotta go back to class now.

What are you doing right now? I gotta go teach. We're working on a group communication activity, and this is like the third class today I've had to work on it with. It's a fun exercise, though. I give them the task of sorting through 18 applicants for a scholarship and they have to pick the two most deserving, split $50k between them, and justify the decision they made. We spend a few days on it. I introduce "complications" to fuck things up a bit. It's an ungraded exercise, but it can get kinda intense.

Anyway, bye now.

I got nothin'.

I just finished my pre-algebra homework. I’m so pissed because I bombed my last assignment, mainly because I put positive number instead of negative. Oh well.

Well shit, the 8th grade math curriculum is the same here as it is there, huh?

Lol i might move up to alebra 1 because i rock at math and science.

The 8th grade curriculum is pretty much the saem, but their nutrition program sucks balls. the onyl good thing is that you can actually bring your binders and shit in there and do work, so you dont have to bring everytihng home. The bus system sucks too. They think if your within a two mile radius of the school, you have to walk or get a ride. If your outside that radius, there is only one bus that picks kids up. ONE! in lacrosse they have like 7!!!!! And i have to walk top school with a 20 pound piece of shit! God damn i need my bike fixed. Laugh

Something's weird here, I'm in grade 10 and I'm in Algebra 2. Wtf But I am in advanced classes, I should be in Geometry, but really most kids take pre-algebra when they're in 8th grade here (I took it in 7th.)

no im in 8th grade >.<

AP (Advanced Placement) Chemistry even, then I wouldn't have to take it in college. Smile

Your damn US school system confuses me. We have three levels of classes (academic, applied, essential) and we have nothing like advanced placements. As much as I dislike school, your system makes me jealous.

I've been trying to take a computer engineering course FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS Ranting. It's not like they don't have it, some people I know have gotten in it. Not to brag, but if I wasn't lazy I would have gotten 90%+ in my computer science classes. Tomorrow I'm going to go down to the student counsellors office and rant to them about not letting me in that fucking course. Fuck, my school is a waste of time.

Sorry for the rant. Now to brag: I'm taking biology AND chemistry AND physics.
