RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Stratovarius - see? you're in a paradigm (you probably don't even know what that fucking means). At least comtemplate what I've said. You also don't even know what a fucking troll is - go back to watching anime fucking no-lifer.

A troll is someone who posts just to inflame all parties, without personal gain other than satisfaction at pissing people off. In fact now that I think about it, your post is trolling against me.

Re: Pro-School Arguments

Double post lol. But this regarding your so-called uselessness (and danger) of public school because you sit your ass all day and take tests. Apparently you learn nothing.

So apparently, you can learn nothing in school, but you can learn more while being home schooled or taking virtual school (which is the same as public, but you're too stupid to realize). The whole point of school is to chase a job. The specific job requires you to know something - which you mostly get in the public system. How does dropping out reconcile this? Other than pointing out you give up easily in the face of adversity?

ROFL

Dude. You're shooting yourself in the ass. You're making so many shitty assumptions that have been addressed time and time again here.

Go read some old threads before embarrassing yourself any further.

Oh I almost forgot. Have fun getting angry, you're so fucking easy to poke at. I hope you participate more so I can make you rage like all hell until you break your computer from being so fucking angry.

I've been in one too many arguments with pro-mandatory school people, and they always annoy me, so I'm not getting involved, but I just want to say that before you go dismissing us as a bunch of idiots there are a few people here who would disagree with you intelligently as opposed to the sit-at-home-and-play-video-games-all-day stereotype.

Re: Pro-School Arguments

Ahhaha this is so funny. I can tell you haven't even read anything in my responses. I purposely put the statement that you guys are intelligent as opposed to the majority of the dropout idiots. I knew obviously that you guys wouldn't bother to read it.

As well, you assumed that I was assuming that you guys were idiots like the majority of american dropouts/failures. The irony is thick here. Do not assume to know who I am, or what I think. You sound very much like an egoist and elitist who perfect describes the people you people are against (corporate bigwigs).

As for the shitty assumptions - counterproofs? You fail to even mention any, just telling me to read previous posts. If its so evident, perhaps typing a sentence would suffice? Naturally, you didn't bother to do so. Until you do, I assume that you have nothing good to type and that you are just trying to get me off this forum.

Again, typing fuck does not mean angry. Again, assuming that I'm destryoing the computer with rage. Ahhh, the fantasies of anime nerds. Thrilling, frankly. If anyone cares.

Anywho, if it is SO EVIDENT that you NEEDN't explain how going to school helps, just give me ONE proof that drop outs do better than non-drop outs. Fire away. I can wait. And don't give me ad hominem shit (if you know what that is, of course). I'm assuming you don't. I'll just give a hint - it means attacking the person, not the topic at hand. G'day.

tl;dr

No seriously, I read like the first sentence, then I skimmed over the post and decided you were a faggot. That's when I stopped reading.

What kind of porn do you like? Personally, I'm into little anime girls getting raped by tentacle monsters.

It kind of is. For not attending, you can be fined. That's the thing, going to school isn't a choice on the student's part.

Re: Pro-School Arguments

I think you ought to be a little less condescending if you want many serious responses. =P

escru Wrote:Of course, you can say that the American high school system (or whatever the fuck you call it) has failed american youth. I think its just the youth problem.
I think this is a cop-out. Yes, maybe the school system would work if it were used 'properly', but that doesn't change the fact that it does not work! Something potentially useful but unlikely to be used is useless in practice. Likewise, the school system is only useful if students make use of it; if it doesn't work, then it needs to change.

Quote:I mean think about it. Life is hard. Do you just give up cuz your teacher is being gay? No. You know the reason why old people keep saying youngsters are turning out for the worse? Its because you have it SO much easier yet you still complain and bitch to no end.
No, I give up because it was not worthwhile to begin with. I think it's incorrect to assume that the hard way to do something must necessarily be the best.

Quote:What makes you think you can succeed in life if you give up so easily. Sure its boring - every job in the world is fucking boring. You can say the world is just entrapped in being quiet and doing mindless work. This doesn't just apply to high school. So with that information, what makes you think you can succeed in real life if you couldn't even fucking handle juniour science?
What makes you think you can succeed in life if you willingly let your decisions be made by others, especially if you're not sure whose interests they're looking out for? If you can decide to do something else that better accomplishes what you want to accomplish, you should do it rather than continuously doing the same thing with mediocre results. I think sticking to the same goal is much more important than sticking to the same activity--the latter is just an excuse for inefficiency.

I do think that there is a time and place to stfu and do what you're told, but that should be done out of deliberate choice and not habit.

Quote:I'm gonna have to say this - have fun working at target or walmart or mcdonalds. I know SOME of you will be able to get semi decent jobs without attending highschool or college/university. But the MAJORITY will become fucking hobos, or take to the streets. Heck, you'll be drifing in and out of jobs and living possibly in your rent's basements.
I agree with this somewhat. I think some people here are quick to recommend a course of action to others without taking into account the situation of those others. Most people here could pass the GED easily, or take community college courses at 16, or find a job in an area they're especially good at, but that doesn't mean everyone could, and it's misleading to suggest that.

Quote:That was long, yes, but I'd just like to conclude by saying if you can fucking handle school, you most probably cant handle life in general.
I think the majority of us could handle school, but that doesn't mean it's ideal for us to do so.

Quote:So apparently, you can learn nothing in school, but you can learn more while being home schooled or taking virtual school (which is the same as public, but you're too stupid to realize). The whole point of school is to chase a job. The specific job requires you to know something - which you mostly get in the public system. How does dropping out reconcile this? I suppose I don't think the main point of education is to chase a job.

Re: Pro-School Arguments

the main point of getting public schooled is so you can choose the courses you want that reflect what job you are interested in. No one is telling you to be a doctor or take any science or maths.

I am not saying only school provides education. Education is in all fields of life.

I'd rather not. I don't need to do something to replace every function of the school system because some of those functions are unimportant to me.

I like math and science. (That's not really relevant, but I suppose it's worth stating just for clarity.)

What if you don't want a job at all, and you'd rather be an entrepreneur or just work as little as possible to have enough money to do what you want? The generic lifestyle of getting a job and sticking with it until you retire and die just doesn't work for everyone.

Of course it doesn't work for everyone. Democracy nowadays is for state, not the individual (opposed to the original idea lol). I'm not saying dropouts all fail. If you have a very clear plan in front of you post-drop out, then by all means go for it if you feel confident. If you drop out merely because you don't like getting "controlled" by the government, then g'luck at McDonalds.

escru Wrote:If you drop out merely because you don't like getting "controlled" by the government, then g'luck at McDonalds.

How about mental strain? Is that not a good enough reason? Do you suggest people should simply "suck it up and take it like a man" ?
Or, perhaps, some simply don't want to go to school. Does that mean that they'll end up at McDonalds?
Is life really that black-and-white?

If go to school then become lawyer
If don't go to school then become McDonalds employee

That's not very realistic. I could think of a lot of things that people could do instead of working at McDonalds if they drop out. For example: writing, web designing, making websites (and getting money off the ads), software developing etc.
It's more about the motivation, and if you have enough of it, you can do whatever you wish with your career. Maybe if you want to be a lawyer or a doctor, you must go to school, but I don't believe everybody wants to be a doctor or a lawyer.

Let go of all desire for the common good, and the good becomes common as grass.

OK you're taking this the wrong way. Read my original first few posts. I don't think that dropping out is 100% epic fail, I think that you're just more likely to fail. And you can't refute that. Btw the jobs you provided are really really gonna be ousted during the next few years of the global economic recession.

So drop out if you dare.

Yeah... my idea of epic fail is spending my best years in a job I'll most likely hate (before that ofc. I am obligate to work my ass off for like 12 years to get more money from job) than retire when I am probably unfit to do even simple task and than die, of course soimewhere in between I am gonna bring to this world more junior Gobinu's with as miserable future as dady's...good luck with that I'd rather finish myself clean & quick.

That's what he gets for coming on here and assuming he's smarter than thou.

Re: Pro-School Arguments

escru Wrote:Lol. Thats all I can say.

I'm Canadian, and in high school (gr 12). I'm not too sure about american schools, but from what I've heard like everyone fucking drops out and works at target and try to scrap some online course.
Not everyone drops out, and not everyone who drops out works at a Target while taking an online course.

escru Wrote:Of course, you can say that the American high school system (or whatever the fuck you call it) has failed american youth. I think its just the youth problem. Theres this mentality that school sucks. I know this is gonna hurt you since you people sound fairly intelligent, but dropouts are just plain stupid.
Not all dropouts are the unintelligent sloth-like pseudo-humans you believe them to be. You'd better watch your generalizations.
Also, people can live great lives without schooling or college. Not everyone wants to be some business executive like you; some people are interested in other things, like music or art.

escru Wrote:I mean think about it. Life is hard. Do you just give up cuz your teacher is being gay? No. You know the reason why old people keep saying youngsters are turning out for the worse? Its because you have it SO much easier yet you still complain and bitch to no end.
I love how you misused "gay" in your first sentence. Lrn2b politically correct.
You say you're a senior in high school. That means you're either 17 or 18. If you're 17, aren't you a young person too? Why aren't you complaining and bitching to no end; I thought that comment you made included you too. Or maybe you're 18 now. Did you magically gain life experience overnight, and now you're allowed to be a bigoted asshole?

escru Wrote:What makes you think you can succeed in life if you give up so easily. Sure its boring - every job in the world is fucking boring. You can say the world is just entrapped in being quiet and doing mindless work. This doesn't just apply to high school. So with that information, what makes you think you can succeed in real life if you couldn't even fucking handle juniour science?
Not every job is boring. Just because you think something's boring doesn't mean everyone thinks it's boring. And what do you mean by "succeeding in life?" By your definition, it seems to be the cycle of getting out of school, going to college, graduating, getting a job, getting married, having kids, retiring, then dying. That's funny; it's the basic blueprint 90% of the world seems to follow. I can "succeed at life" without your fucking science courses, thank you.

escru Wrote:I'm gonna have to say this - have fun working at target or walmart or mcdonalds. I know SOME of you will be able to get semi decent jobs without attending highschool or college/university. But the MAJORITY will become fucking hobos, or take to the streets. Heck, you'll be drifing in and out of jobs and living possibly in your rent's basements.
Again, you'd better watch your fucking generalizations.

escru Wrote:That was long, yes, but I'd just like to conclude by saying if you can fucking handle school, you most probably cant handle life in general.
And I'd like to conclude by saying fuck you.
