RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Stupidity spreading like the Flu

Guys...Everyone in my grade is
A. A complete egotistical idiot who thinks that he/she is better than everyone because of their grades Bigeek
B. Just plain stupid, dismissing anything that hasn't been told to them by the falsifying Educational System
C. More immature than most howler monkeys
Or D. Emo
PLZ help now my school is rotten to the core, students and all. I'm going 1/\/54/\/3!!!!11
Wot can I do to try and enlighten these drones?

I had nothing to say
And I get lost in the nothingness inside of me
And I let it all out to find
That I'm not the only person with these things in mind

I was apalled at their lack of resolve to change school even after finding out about how it is just socially conditioning them. It isn't that they are foolish per- se it's just that they don't wish to fight for anything even something as important as their rights. They consider school absolute. I think that I sampled enough of the school bouncing around cliques to come to that conclusion, though. But Kirby is right that I exaggerated a bit; I was just in a bad mood lol.

Mine is 90% sheep, 10% goat. Unfortunately the school is also 10% stupid and most of them are the goats.

Quote:i dont even have my own percent
The only way you don't have a percent if a) you don't exist; or b) there are zero people in your school. Both are impossible, 'specially the second one since it implies the nonexistence of existing beings. And you can't divide by zero.

i'm not important for my own percent, i'm just there. i sit, watch, hear(not listen) and wait for the bell. then i sit the bus ride home, silent, no other girls on my bus and even if there were they'd probrably piss me off.

I do!

Or at least I tested positive for it. Mostly when it comes to numbers and patterns. I tend to count a lot of things that don't necessarilly need counting. I was in a room with a really bad wallpaper job once. The pattern was off and while my friend thought I was absolutely insane, I insisted we go out and sleep on the couch because we couldn't hold a conversation for longer than two minutes before I'd start glaring just over her shoulder behind her head.

It's a pretty slight case of it though. The kind that comes from sharing genetics with an autistic sibling.

Let's do the time warp again!

I'm sure most students have been bored at school or dreaded the thought of going, but most have not seriously considered whether or not it is necessary. This makes it hard for us to explain to them the uselessness of school because people have mental inertia for things they don't question. It takes a greater force to get someone thinking than it does to keep them thinking. You have to get them to ask the first "why" and the rest will follow, so long as they keep questioning and getting good answers. If they get the answer, "You go to school because you must learn.", but don't ask, "Can't I learn outside of school?", they won't get to the truth.

This is why we need to get information out. The reason why people don't do shit about climate change is because they don't know what it is. Oh sure, they are told it will screw us over. But why? Most people can't answer that question. Truth is the greatest act of rebellion.

It is an indicator of linguistic smartness but not of general data-processing. Not that I'm calling you stupid.
