RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Left Behind: Eternal Forces

Just got done reading an interesting article about this game. The author makes the argument that it is part of a whole package of ways fundamentalist youth are being indoctrinated to conduct religious war against non-believers, and others not like themselves. The article also examines and links to more stuff on the psychological processes behind getting ordinary people to do extraordinary evil. Very interesting stuff.

This has been a test of the emergency pointless argument system. Had this been a real pointless argument, someone would have been called a facist.

well...this seems like the kind of thing that would cause some controversy. i'm not saying its not bad, it sounds pretty bad and probably is. but the controversial subject matter of it might cause some bias for the raters that has nothing to do with the technical aspects of it. you can't always trust ratings for a thing like this.

Most of the GTA series were controversial, no Bias there as far as I can see.

maybe there was, we just didn't know it. and i think religion is a bit more controversial than that.

Bought it, tried to run it, failed. What I could see of the game, it looked pretty sucky, although the books were an interesting read.

Oh God no...

I remember my parents had a profound hatred for this book series. Which sucked when they first came out because the rest of the camp executive board demanded they have them in stock at the christian book store. My Mom and I finally sort of learned to kick back and laugh at the books rather than beg people not to buy them. But still...they're always one of the more controversial book series at the christian writers conference. Half of people love them, the other half is embarassed as hell and use them as an example of why christian fiction doesn't sell.

But a video game? Forgive me for seeing this as the official sign of the end of the world.

Let's do the time warp again!

I heard on Xplay once that in the game you kill muslims and other religious practices. Is it true??
