RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Sleep with your eyes open!!

1. Try to practice during those boring classes at school. If the teacher notices that you are sleeping then you're not doing it right and you will be in trouble.
2. Keep your eyes moist. Blinking will be necessary but try to blink less than normal.
3. Try day-dreaming; you will know if you have done it by not remembering it, or sort of remembering it, day-dreaming is the same thing, you just are in an extremely relaxed mood, relax totally, and you will do it, simple.

Tips
• Remember that if you can't see the teacher's eyes, then the teacher can't see yours.
• It may not be necessary to sleep with your eyes open if you can learn to sleep while listening to your surroundings.
• Try to focus on an object like the board.

Warnings
• You will have to sleep more because the quality of your sleep will decrease.
• This will lead to failure of your classes. If you need to sleep during a class, you can go to your school nurse and ask to sleep there for a while if it is necessary.
• You should not do this in class. You will fail and be in trouble.
• It is not possible to put eye drops in your eyes while you are sleeping, so if you are intent on doing this and not getting caught, make sure you have a seat at the back of the class so your friend can get good hold of your head and apply eye drops while still paying attention to get a good grade in the class and keep out of trouble.

Things You'll Need
• Eye drops
• Willingness to fail classes.
• A Friend
• Seat at back of room.

I can totally relate to sleeping during class... but if you're really fine with failing your classes, I suggest looking hard for an alternative to school, such as homeschooling or dropping out and getting a GED.

If, after careful consideration, you find that it makes sense to stay in school but sleep in it, techniques such as this could be very worthwhile.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep. It's almost 10am...

In biology myself and two of my friends fell asleep. All we do is take notes and my biology teacher is very boring. She doesn't drone on monotonously; there is just something about her that's uninspiring and boring.

By the sound of it, I sleep with my eyes open all the time. Laugh
I start daydreaming, blank out, go into autopilot, and when I "wake up" I have no idea what the hell I'm doing! I even did in school when we had to copy stuff down. I'd come back to reality and I'd already copied half of what I was supposed to be writing. Not exactly the same thing, though (I mean the sleeping thing).

I had like four hours of sleep last night and I fell asleep a couple times in class. What was different today is I would fall asleep while writing but keep on writing in my mind. I'd write like a sentence then wake up to realize I hadn't actually written anything.

Sleep

I've fallen asleep in class a lot of times, and I never failed, but I was called to give the answer to a problem. Sometimes I got lucky and knew the answer, saying it in time.

My family claims I do this all the time when I sleep regularly. I do not know how it happens, or how I do it. But apparently, it does happen, because friends have observed the same thing, without ever hearing my family say it. When this happens, I'm apparently still deeply asleep, and do not see anything. (Or I forget what I'm seeing) Everyone that has witnessed me do this is thoroughly creeped out. *shrug*

It's a mystery to me.

Oh, and to those who know me, hi! I'm back.

yeah, what kirby said above has happened to me too

i'm taking notes (why can't they give you the fucking paper?) and then notice myself falling asleep. now, i realize this, but at the same time i think i'm writing at the same time. so a whole period will go by, i'm confidently 'writing' everything down, and by the time class is over, i get up and leave, and not written anything! also subconciously talking to people etc

I often go between listening and then going off into day-dream land. The best part about day-dreaming is the teachers can't really notice if you either look at them while their talking or if your looking down at your work.

The only downside to this is if they ask you a question while your day-dreaming. That's why you sorta have to listen. Keep one ear listening at least!
