RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. Send me a message if you'd like to keep in touch with me & Steve.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Metal.

I’m all for musical diversity and I know that some of the bands I'm going to list may make you look upon me with disdain for my choices but here goes nothing, remember I was heavily into Metal and to be honest I still am though I like to explore the realms of different genres I.E Hip Hop, Dubstep, IDM and other obscure genres at times.
Children of Bodom
Pantera
Death
Sonata Artica
Korn
Fear Factory
Sepultura
Opeth
Necrophagist
Lamb of God
Obituary
Napalm Death
Morbid Angel
Cannibal Corpse
Slayer
Metallica
Destruction
System of A Down
Slipknot [First album hypothetically is the best though I don't honestly mind the transition from the brutal first album to the toned down second album].
Type O Negative
Kamelot
Behemoth
Etc

They're OK to me, but they're too boring to listen to... meh.
I like their song Psychosocial. And I like System of a Down, and I like Disturbed a bit too.

I hope you're joking. Metalcore along with nu-metal is the cancer that's killing real metal.

no what's killing metal now is that deathcore shit.

I like deathcore, but the people in deathcore bands look like either wiggers or idiots. I also hate the scene kids that listen to it and say it's death metal(putting Vader and Bring Me the Horizon in the same catagory is an insult). Listen to All Shall Perish and then listen to Vader or Morbid Angel. Those sound nothing alike.

that's actually how i found Arch Enemy [when they were decent, before they started snuggling with mallcore kids] I checked to see what happened to Carcass, and a few of them had joined arch enemy. similar deal with Blind Illusion, which is most of Primus =D but that was just a side project.

i also forgot to mention how boss In Flames are(were?). let it be known i have thought so since wayyyy before their last few albums (which aren't that bad, but obviously were ruined by the Guitar Hero/Rock Band suckfest. besides the fact of kinda leaving melodeath and turning more just...alternative)
i've liked them through each of their line-up changes. i like the older stuff better of course. i mean, come on, they didn't even have a vocalist for their first or second albums. they hired the singer of Dark Tranquility to do session vocals for the first album. and some other guy for vocals on the second album. but yea... In Flames' first 5 albums were great and can't believe i forgot to list them since i would have put them in the top 3.

If you like Melodic Death Metal you really need to check out Edge of Sanity. Their album Crimson is one brilliant 40 minute melodic death metal song. Mind was blown when I first listened to it.

Disturbed are somewhere on the line between modern hard rock and metal. Slipknot is nu metal, for the most part... unless you mean the '80s crossover thrash Slipknot.
All I'm saying is I prefer old school death metal, Norwegian black metal and some good ol' thrash.

Bump for great justice.

Need help finding a band for all that is metal, though I can't remember the name. Had an ice theme to it. Think it was one of those that ended in " -ica " Album art was made to look like frozen water, and ice. That's about all I can remember.

@Pieman: Sonata Arctica?

Personally, I like melodeath. The Faceless is currently my favorite band. Then comes Skyfire. I used to like Kalmah a lot but I can't listen to it after this slightly progressive stuff, it feels like listening to pop after metal :S
Still, their song called "Hades" is really great.
