RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Homework

Personally, I rarely ever do it, because it's a waste of my time. They usually never grade it on accuracy, so I jsut put down a bunch of fake answers. If it IS based on accuracy, I do it after school, before I go home.

Also, my math teacher is probably going to be pissed at me for not doing like 5 assignments, but he can go shove it.

Maybe if he didn't assign 70 problems for homework everyday, and if his schedule made any goddamn sense AT ALL, I might do some of it. Till then, I just make up reasonable sounding answers so I get the grade.

I rarely didn't complete homework. Not because I'm a nerd or I love school ( hey, I'm a member of this site), but just to make sure I can discuss it with friends and teacher so that I understand the lesson and go to school peacefully. Our teachers don't grade homework. Razz

I'm not against homework, I'm against EXCESSIVE HOMEWORK. They think we have like 5 hours everyday to do homework.Cuckoo
What are we??? Nerdtards??? NO. Rolleyes

I've spent 10 years in school. This is my last year Wink

homework is shit. it screws up evenings cause little kids have tantrums, it hits you when you're most tired, it takes up free time for doing other things, and it just reeks of sheer, paternalistic arrogance that they consider themselves so important that they can control what you do in your free time, in your OWN HOME.

Also, rarely ever does it, and if he does, rarely puts much effort into it, yet gets A's and B's on all tests/quizzes. He also has a 3.6 GPA and high state testing scores. Smile

School is flawed, and that's simple proof.

Damn straight! (high five)

Hi, I'm new to this site (hope you don't mind me intruding) but I completely agree about homework, I've just been at school for 7 hours, the last thing I want to do is something school related, at my house no less.

Homework sucks. I have some due tomorrow that I plan to start (and finish) tomorrow morning.

And hi, Payback. Welcome

Thank you

And the worst part is now my teacher is giving us a sheet to give to our parents with a sticker saying that we either completed or didn't complete the assignment as if somehow I was back in grade 2, apparently a simple phone call can't do the trick.

"Great Job Billy!, do you want the turtle sticker or the lion?"

Hehe.

I hate homework. My parents say "ITS YER JOHB". Bah. I didn't get hired, I was forced. And what justification do YOU teachers have to give me useless work that will amount to jack shit over MY weekend? And yes, it IS the student's weekend. Students have to put up with more shit then you ever have in this day and age. So fuck you, I'm not wasting my weekend with your work.

Most of my homework is voluntary of which I only do math. My chemistry teacher is cool though. She assigns homework everyday but she has said that it is not there just to make work for us, it is there if we feel we need practice. She actually understands that people learn in different ways and she doesn't care if we don't do those questions.

My school starts at 8am and goes till 2:30pm, minus one hour for lunch means only 6.5 hours of school. 6.5 hours by five days means 32.5 hours a week. I work fifteen hours a week so that brings it up to 47.5 hours. Meaning I do not have a forty hour work week, I have almost 10 hours more. And I'm supposed to do homework? I completely agree with the sentiment that my free time is MY free time, not the schools.

My maths teacher is cool now. He promised on Wednesday that he'll never give us homework on Fridays, even if we act like fuckin psychos Mwahaha . That's a pretty schweet deal.

So we don't have to worry about getting impossible math homework to complete over the weekend from him, but our other teachers are evil (bad evil) like that. They give us too much homework for the mer-hey, I just realised we have trhe answers to the questions in the back of our maths text book Evil

But cheating is meh.
