RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Are you smarter then a 5th grader?

Vatman Wrote:The new who wants to be a millionare spinoff by FOX has actually gotten Jeff Foxworthy to host it. Basicly its the same thing as who wants to be a millionare but instead of questions conserning old movies and different ways to call forks, the show (as the title implies) askes you a series of questions that one would learn in elementary school. Instead of lifelines they have 5th graders answering the same questions and you can choose whether or not you want to use their answer if you get it wrong.

All in all its fun to watch for a few minutes...Jeff Foxworthy begins to look depressed after the first five minutes of the show, probably over the sheer idiocy of the PHD level contestants participating...but cannot answer simple questions. Example: A woman answered the question, "what is the closest star to the earth?" inncorret......

The thing I dont understand is where does it fit in with this websites ideology....does it show that people dont remember the stuff they learn in school or would this community better support the idea that even people who have gone through the education proccess cant answer basic questions due to the system. (of course there is always the possibliity fox just finds particularly stupid contestants =p)

Heh, funny you bring this up, I was just watching that show. It seemed pretty lame.

That show would probably annoy me as much as the half-witted dimshits in my school do.

I heard of that show. I'm not watching it at all. It's as boring as the fuckin Lifetime channel.

Spambot Kill Counter: 33
Spambot Kill Counter as Spambot Hell's Devil: Countless

Buying a high powered computer: 500 bucks
Getting gift wrap: 10 bucks maybe
Seeing the horror on that special someone's face once they tear off the gift wrap and see a Windows 98: Priceless.

I watched this yesterday out of morbid fascination.

"When you mix equal amounts of red and yellow paint, what color do you get?"

The tech support woman took a really long time on it.

My sister pretty much threw the same rant you did.

Let's do the time warp again!

i don't think they're idiots. it's just that they forget some things... honestly, mixing colors and such isn't that indicative of intelligence, it just means they might be better in other things

if there was a closer one we'd all be dead, or at least really burned. think Tatooine. plus our orbits would be totally fucked up. and the nights would be a hell of a lot shorter.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

I'm a huge nerd, and I fail Math like crazy, mostly because I suck at memorizing crap. Well, crap I don't care anything about anyway.

i never got D's in elemtentary school, but it's hard to remember now what i did get... quite a few C's (which means I can run for president some day), a lot of B's, and a few A's... depended on how much I cared for the class

Vatman Wrote:well im still pretty much sliding by on D's...and the strangest thing is I seem to be the smartest person in the class...I know that seems realy like arrogent and conseded, but if you were to actually look at my classes...even the honors classes I take....its insane!

Trust me, getting good grades and being smart are two different things.

I new this one smug jerk who got A's on everything, but when you actually talked to him, he was about as smart as a camel.

I agree.

Wow, there's been like 4 questions so far, and the contestant has relied on the kid's answer every time.

THIS MORON HAS $25,000 AND HE HASN'T EVEN ANSWERED A SINGLE PHUCKING QUESTION! Good lord.
