RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

It's stickied. Implying bumpability.
I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

I play bass, too. It's red and white and I've been doing it since October. I love it.

I have 2 guitars, an acoustic and a blue strat. I might take an actual pic of them in the few days but until then my acoustic is just like the one pictured below.

Re: Guitar Thread
I have an Ibanez RG120 and an Esteban Acoustic/Electric. Both are eh.
I'm saving up for an Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty. That thing is the sexiest guitar ever, and REAL cheap for the quality.
I've been playing for a long time now, about 2-3 years at least.
For all those who think self-teaching is the best thing out there, I recommend that you take lessons for awhile. There are some things you can't learn from online that you can from your teacher.

Re: Guitar Thread
Les Paul died a few days ago :( Amazing guy, invented multi-track recording, pioneered solid body electric guitars, created one of the coolest guitars, and was an brilliant musician and genius inventor.
RIP Les Paul.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Cherry sunburst. Plays great, sounds like angels singing when run through a tube amp, and is an all around great guitar. Some of the parts come loose (pots, jack, pickguard screws) and the selector switch needs to be replaced, but I still love it. Especially since it's a lot cheaper than an over priced Gibson.

Re: Guitar Thread
I am a guitarist, electric and acoustic, and I don't like bassists. You may not like me for it, but all bassists I have met/seen/heard of have been arrogant bastards, I am not saying they all are: but a lot of them. If you watch bands on stage you have the guitarist looking all calm and cool: doesn't have to try to be amazing. Bassists are the ones walking around, making faces and thinking their amazing.
But anyway: I am a guitarist currently playing a Yamaha APX 500 Semi-acoustic and a Stagg something-or-other electric.

Re: Guitar Thread
I've tried guitar before, gave up (borrowed by grandpa's acoustic)
Then, I really wanted to try again.
I got an acoustic on Christmas.
Got an Johnson, don't really know what the model is called http://www.johnsongtr.com/guitars.html# Click on "Acoustic" and 610 Player.
I can play (even though I am not good at this) Six Pack by Black Flag. I am close to learning some more songs...
I only have about 3 Major chords memorized, so far.

Re: Guitar Thread
Mine is a dark blue: Tanglewood Elfin.
Picked it up about a month ago for £50 which is amazing for the quality and my friend gave me his ashton ba20 amp which was £100 for £30. So altogether £80 for a nice setup. Learnt a good number of songs so far, especially by the police. As they have a sparse amount of instruments being 3 members you can hear every instrument being played, Sting made some amazing basslines.
Also got a cruiser by crafter:
(not my pic)
My first ever guitar, very reliable but the amp that came with it was terrible, it made the guitar sound rubbish. I never really played it that much. I think the only thing I learned to play was smoke on the water, iron man and the intro to enter sandman.
Also sexy guitar lunatic.

Re: Guitar Thread
I have a Schecter exotic star (guitar) and a johnson 5-string bass. I have been playing for a couple of years and I'm trying to be a master shredder on guitar. I don't never really play the bass much and I can't even fingerpick or use slap bass yet because I don't really practice bass much.

I have started the coaching for learning the guitar. I learn the Acoustic guitar. I really like to do this thing so that I joined the Classes for the guitar training.
