RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Cancelling an Exam?

I have another maths exam tomorrow, and I am sick of them. They do not test your true understanding!

I was thinking about ways to stop an exam without great risks(which means no bomb threats and things like that). Anyone know any? My school has cameras everywhere except in normal classrooms by the way.

put a open milk thing inside a desk or seomthing over night (even better if its over the weekend) and then they wont be able to get hte smell out by the time you have the class so you wont be able to take it. you will have to take it next time you have the class but it will give you some extra time to do what ever you need to do.

I've never really tried anything like this. I have a couple ideas, but you'd probably need a few days at least to do either.
  • Read Hacking: Art of Deception for ideas on how to use social engineering to get access to the tests and mess something up or just do the test beforehand
  • Put something like an Annoy-a-tron in the room during the test. (Not in your bag though!)[/list:u]

I remember exams were cancelled once. I wasn't going to school there at the time, I was visiting my friends back in Michigan and freeloading on their couches when their exams were cancelled. It was due to weather and the only way to get them in was to have them come in on Saturday which they were seriously considering doing.

It was a huge controversey.

They ended up going without exams. Which made me a little sad because then I didn't get to go to school and see everybody, just the people I stayed with.

It figures the one day exams get cancelled, it's to my disadvantage.

Let's do the time warp again!

If only I were so lucky. Exams suck rat nether regions. I ask, what is the point of wasting perfectly good time studying for some ultimately meaningless exam that will have a minimal effect on your future? And I answer myself...none. BS of the highest order.

Eh. Be careful with Mitnick's works. He's famed, but only because he ran from the FBI, using rather dated techniques. I'll give him credit that he's good at social engineering, but I doubt it will apply to schools.

I don't think you're going to get out of exams.

The god of man is a failure
Our fortress is burning against the grain of the shattered sky
Charred birds escape from the ruins and return as cascading blood
Dying bloodbirds pooling, feeding the flood
The god of man is a failure
And all of our shadows are ashes against the grain
