RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

RE: School Schedules

I have a lot of good teachers, thank God.

45 minute periods: on delays and EDs we have 30 minute periods and no AR

20 minutes of AR (worst 20 minutes ever)
Pd.1-2: Reading Language Arts
I don't particularly care for the teachers, but I can sit through it for an hour and a half. It's not horrible.
Pd.3: Math
The subject got really boring in 6th grade, but the teacher is really nice.
Pd.4: Gym
IMO 4,5, and 6th periods are like break time for me.
Pd. 5: Lunch
Pd. 6: Band
One of my few outlets of the day...aahhhh.
Pd. 7: More math!
Pd. 8: Social Studies
Meh, it's great at some times. and horrible at others
Pd. 9: Science
Science SUCKS! It was decent in 5th grade, but it sucks this year.

RE: School Schedules

Wow, a lot of people have a schedule way worse than mine. Anyway, my school has a typical 6-class, 2 lunch schedule.

Period 1: Biology.
This is probably the ONLY class with a TEACHER who knows how to TEACH! I'm not even kidding. I've probably learned more in this class than I ever had in ANY other class. Now, there are cons. It's boring as hell, I have 1 friend in the class who sits on the other side of the room, and the teacher is real strict about the seating chart. Overall, not a bad class, not a good class. 6/10.

Period 2: Peer Counseling
This is a pretty pointless class. It's for people who hate school and get bad grades, such as myself. It's an easy class, all you do is homework, and the teacher really doesn't give a shit if you do your homework or not. The teacher is actually REALLY laid back, he lets you listen to music, sit anywhere you want, eat snacks, etc. This class is pointless, but in a good way. A good time-waster, since I already do my homework in another class anyway. 9/10. Sadly, this is where the "good stuff" ends, because period 3 and onward is absolute garbage...

Break #1: Nutrition
This is a shortened version of lunch. I don't see why it even EXISTS. To waste time, maybe? Anyway, it's pretty much the same as lunch. Crowded, chaotic, and uncomfortable.

Period 3: Music Theory
Oh god... where do I begin? Music class is HORRIBLE. Any good impression that 2nd period left me is ERASED. First of all, I have to sit next to a group of ASSHOLES, who, believe it or not, used to be my friends. They CONSTANTLY pick on me. Almost to the point where I was going to get up and beat the shit out of the main person doing it, but the 400 dollar police fine scared me off of doing that. And the teacher? Terrible. People noted that she's a racist. Yes, I said it. The African kids in the class ALWAYS get called out for being defiant, but they're actually not even doing anything that's defiant at all. These are the group of African kids who are really chilled out, too. The teacher needs to call out the ASSHOLES sitting right next to me for being defiant, but she doesn't. She lets them yell, throw things, break stuff, etc. Good lord. The class is not easy at all. Everybody lost track of the "lessons" after the second day. The teacher SHOVES shit down our throats and expects us to learn it. She gives us huge question packets that contain material that she HASN'T EVEN COVERED. 1/10.

Period 4: PE/Gym
This class is another waste of time. Forcing kids to run a mile isn't going to cure obesity. They FORCE you to dress out in their hideous PE clothes every single day... EVEN WHEN IT'S RAINING! I swear, I have gotten ill so many times because of this. The teachers get to wear warm jackets, scarfs, hats, jeans, winter boots, etc. while we're FREEZING OUR ASSES OFF dressed in a T-shirt and gym shorts with some running shoes. Oh guess what? They don't let us inside of a building or anything. We HAVE to stay outside at ALL TIMES. I don't know how they haven't been sued yet. This is obviously child abuse. 1/10

Break #2: Lunch
Like I said earlier, lunch is crowded, chaotic, and uncomfortable. First of all, it's a "universal" lunch, meaning that every grade must share the same lunch. We're all shoved into one small cafeteria as well, meaning there's people EVERYWHERE. I can't even walk 3 feet without bumping into people. The food? It's questionable. What the hell is it? It looks like they managed to scrape some leftover prison lunch from 2 months ago to serve to the students. I never, EVER get lunch. It's disgusting. 1/10

Period 5: Algebra ICP.
This class is so fucking BORING. I have no friends at all in this class. It's a ghetto class, where the defiant kids go, meaning that everyone's always messing around, like throwing stuff, yelling, etc. The teacher? He can't teach for balls. His voice is so monotone, he doesn't do anything about the defiant kids, he assigns a shit load of homework every day, and he gives us 50 question packets every day. I swear, I fall asleep in this class EVERY SINGLE DAY. 1/10.

Period 6: English I
This is an easy class. Well, was. Now that we have to answer 30 extremely difficult questions about the mind-numbingly BORING novel "Fahrenheit 451" every day, the class all of a sudden turned into a force-a-packet-down-your-throat-everyday type of class. The teacher, can, somewhat teach. He's not as bad as Algebra's teacher, but he's not as good as Biology's teacher. He gets boring most of the time, and he tries way too hard to entertain the class. This is probably the only fun class, because a LOT of my friends are in it. 6/10

Welp, there's my schedule.

School Schedules

School Schedule-

1st- Science/Naptime- Incredibly tired, teacher sucks. Fun in 6th grade, but it sucks this year. The guy gives me a demerit for borrowing a Censored pencil (then again, I've "borrowed" around 50 by this time)!

2nd- Band- By far the best class. My only outlet of the day.

3rd- Art- School can make anything suck, even art. Now I have to do an artist report with a PowerPoint, a brochure AND write a story about one of his paintings. Plus I have to cite all of it AND it is worth 800 points (over 1/2 of my grade). Total waste of time.

4th- French- It's been since August and I still haven't been taught how to ask for water or where the nearest bathroom is in French. Yet I learn things like verb endings and forms of etre. WTCensored?

5th- Lunch- This is where I fake proposed to a girl as a dare.

ACE (Tuesdays and Thursdays)- Because I have a 504, I'm forced to go to a special-needs ACE. I have organization problems and I'm forced to organize during this time (I hate it!). It's basically a study hall for most students, but for me, I dread these.

6th/7th- English- It's totally useless. There is a 10% time project where we get 7th period to work on a project every Friday. It's forced as Censored though.

8th- Pre-Algebra- The teacher is nice, and I actually enjoy meth.

9th- History- The teacher is funny (for a teacher) and he practically gives you the answers on tests Razz!

8:00-2:50

schoolsux's countdown until school ends:

177 days until i get out of freshman year (aka hell)
1280 days until I get out of prison (aka school)

also Fu school

I start the class in the summer and then take two as soon as I finish one online. I figure it's better to spread my schedule out and take Spanish without a break so I don't forget any material since the class is hard.

School Schedules

I just got my 8th grade schedule today, here is what it looks like (with commentary):

1st Period: Band- I get my 7th grade scheduling wish... 1st period band!

2nd Period (1st): Gym- Final semester of gym I will ever have to deal with (marching band counts as a sport in my school, and so does bowling).

2nd Period (2nd): Study Hall- I have my 7th grade science teacher, Mr. Krueger, for study hall. Despite the fact I hated him for most of the year, I realized he was actually a good person and a good teacher (I just hated the timing of the class).

3rd/4th Period: English- From what I have heard, the teacher I have for English is actually interesting. I hate English, but a truly good English teacher can make me actually enjoy it (not my 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Woos).

5th Period: Lunch

6th Period (1st): Study Hall- The teacher I have for study hall substituted for my 7th grade English teacher while she went to D.C. with the 8th grade. She was decent (better than Mrs. Woos, but not that great, either).

6th Period (2nd): Multimedia- This is before I realized the teacher I have for Multimedia is an asshole. While the class is interesting to me (much more than French), the teacher is an asshole. Read for more information: http://forums.school-survival.net/showth...?tid=35343

7th Period: Science- From what I have heard, the teacher I am having this year for science is a decent teacher. At least she is better than the other 8th grade science teacher (from what I have heard, I cannot say yet).

8th Period: History- Apparently she is a nice teacher from what I have heard. I doubt she will be as good as Mr. Stewart (my 7th grade history teacher), though.

9th Period: Algebra- The algebra teacher I have is a cool guy from what I have heard. He also teaches 7th grade math.

I do not know too much on how many classes I am in with friends (or my crush), but what I do know is that most of my friends will be in Band (along with my crush). One of my best friends is in my English class and lunch period, while another one of my best friends is in 6 of my class periods (Band/English (2 periods)/Lunch/History/Algebra).

You Americans have nasty schedules. Because in a 6th former in my last year I only study 3 subjects. I do biology, geologym and geography. About half my week is made up of free periods as a result.

RE: School Schedules

My schedule works as follows:

Note: E period is at the same time every day and has the same length, as this has lunch in it.
Monday and Friday each have all my classes, and have the same schedule.
A-B-C-D-E-F-G
Thursday has them, but switched around for no apparent reason and in such a way that makes me have to go back and forth across the entire school and up and down stairs every single period.
B-A-D-C-E-F-G

Tuesday has block periods that are longer (except E period), and has 4 periods in the day, along with Advisory after first period, which is a 30 min. thing that is basically pointless but whatever. I don't feel like explaining it, just know that it doesn't matter much.
A-Advisory-C-E-F

Wednesday is the same as Tuesday, but there are the the rest of the periods, and Advisory is replaced with X-Block. X-block is a 30 min. free period where you can do whatever. Sometimes they have stuff happen during it like put people with dogs on all the couches so yo can't go there to just hang as there are people crowding them.
B-X-block-D-E-G

well would you look at the time its time to gay

This is my schedule:

School starts at 7:40, then...
Band
Elective (changes depending on the quarter)
Break!
Algebra
Geography
Lunch!
English
Science
Religion (gags)
(Each period is about an hour long, give or take)
And then I finally leave at 3:20.

Then there's Mass on Friday, which is torture, but at least all the classes are shorter!
