RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

my schedule is:

MONDAY: maths, physics, history Smile, religion (all 4 are 80mins)

TUESDAY: English (the special class for those of us that can't speak English), mythology, physics, latin (all 4 are 80mins)

WEDNESDAY: RE, English (the special class for those of us that can't speak English), latin, English (the special class for those of us that can't speak English) (all 4 are 80mins)

THURSDAY!!!!!! (the blessed day!): ART, maths :(, history Smile, mythology (all 4 are 80mins)

FRIDAY: English (the special class for those of us that can't speak English) (35mins), maths (35mins), English (the special class for those of us that can't speak English) (70mins), PSE (where we talk about sex) (35mins), ART (70,mins), PE (70mins)

well it's actually religion and philosophy. Everyone has to do the philosophy (about abortions ect) which is half a GCSE (people refer to it as religion) but I'm doing a full GCSE because I like religion and philosophy.

My schedule is pretty easy compared to you guys, I'm a senior and I was able to drop my 1st and 2nd period. I've also got 1st lunch, which gives me an extra 45 min to sleep. (I don't leave my house until 10:45) Biggrin English is 3rd and Art is 4th. I pretty much hated every other semester I had during high school. It's good to know I'll be done in a couple months. Freedom! Omg Laugh Biggrin

8 classes, seven a day with A and B days. at my level, you receive two 'electives' from a list of about 3 options + band and choir, if you choose band or choir, then scheduling makes it impossible to choose 2 of the electives, leaving you with one choice. Of course, even then, you can end up like me, when the single elective is full, and get forced into a 'constructive study hall'. supposedly selection is random, but in our school, nothing happens by accident. Suspicious

oh, interesting note, in our school, there are NO bells. the timing of release is decided by the teacher. Of course, the most ridiculously unfair teacher has the period right before lunch, which is only 35 minutes to begin with. I have gone days without eating for this reason. :(

EDIT: added the second paragraph.

I believe strongly in finishing what i

Re: School Schedules

We have nice schedule!

Example

We start at like, 9:10. First lesson might be History, which lasts an hour. The at 10:10 we have Maths for an hour. Then twenty minutes break. At 11:30 we have Geography. After that, we have lunch at 12:30. This is also an hour. At 1:30 we got Music, then Art.

So yeah. 5 1-hour lessons a day, one hour twenty minutes break.

That is actually my schedule for Monday.

Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
but I got him where I want him now...

Re: School Schedules

We have a block schedule. Example:

Monday [day1]
8:00-9:25 Avid
9:30-11:00 Geometry
11:05-12:35 English
12:40-1:17 Lunch
1:25-2:30 Sem.

Tuesday [day2]
8:00-9:25 Computer
9:30-11:00 Bio.
11:05-12:35 History
12:40-1:17 Lunch
1:25-2:30 Health

and then it starts over. We also have A lunch B lunch because there are so many kids at our school. So we either eat too early or too late. Meaning you can have one class after lunch or two. I don't see why they have to make it so difficult. Every quarter you can change your class. Noo

Let's see Biggrin

Monday (starts at 13.30, ends at 19.30): Logics,Geography x 2,English x 2,Romanian x 2
Tuesday (starts at 11.30, ends at 17.20): Chemistry,History,Latin,Physics (as in study of forces, vectors, etc.), Geography, Religion.
Wednesday (starts at 11.30, ends at 18.30): Arts, Romanian x 2, History, English x 2

In 2 years we'll switch to morning programme, starting at 7.30 and ending at 13/14.00

Oh,and it takes me 2 full hours to get from home to school / school to home. Thursday I get home at about 22.00.

Re: School Schedules

My school starts at 7:30 AM and ends at 2:30 PM. We have six classes everyday that are 55 minutes long (exept for the fourth class, which is a little longer)

1 - World History
2 - English II
3 - Algebra II
4 - Band
LUNCH
5 - Latin III
6 - Chemistry

What sucks is that last year, we used to have an advisory period right before lunch which is where we could do homework/other work, but now we don't have it so managing time is really hard. Next year we're going to have 7 classes and still no advisory period. :/

Re: School Schedules

Woah... really weird schedules here... Or is mine weird? Who knows...
I'm in my final two years, so they let me off a bit, because we choose our core subjects before that... or else my schedule would be murderous...

Monday:
7.45am-9.20am: Music
9.35am-11.10am: English
11.20am-1.00pm: History

Tuesday:
7.45am-9.20am: Arts (theory)
9.35am-11.10am: Maths
11.20am-1.00pm: Physics
2.00pm-4.00pm: Choir

Wednesday:
7.45am-9.20am: Politics (1 semester), Geography (2 semester), politics (1 semester)
9.35am-11.10am: German
11.20am-1.00pm: Biology
1.00pm-4.00pm: Art Society (or something like that)

Thursday (my FAVORITE day Yuck ):
7.45am-9.20am: English
9.35am-11.10am: Maths
11.20am-1.00pm: Music
2.00pm-4.00pm: Art (practical)
4.15pm-5.45pm: Sports

Here's my school schedule:

8:30am - Wake up.
8:30:45am - Turn on PC, hop into shower while PC boots.
9:00am - Check PC-related material such as e-mail and whatnot.
~9:20am - Play a bit of Call of Duty.
10:00am - Breakfast
10:30am - Learn about PC's, study for diploma-thing test in Oct.
11:30am - Done. I can do what I want. Win.

That's pretty much my schedule until Jan. of 2009 when I start going to City College (Yes, I'll be 16 at the time). I like to keep things structured so I get everything done quick and can start on the fun stuff. Goingcrazy

Re: School Schedules

I wish my school dod block days! Except that would only be good for 4 our of 6 classes...the other two it would be torture!

My current schedule is this:
1st-AP Euro. Can go die, BTW
2nd- Trog. Also can go die
3rd- Acting 2
4th(part 1!)- LA10
lunch
4th(part 2!) LA10
5th-Japanese
6th-Chemistry

Each is about 55 minutes long(I think...), with 6 mins in between for passing. Lunch is about half an hour. It goes from 8:05 am to 2:35 pm.

I wish it would start later...waking at 7am is really hard for me for some reason!!

So I'm moving to an Alt school. There are four nine-week terms in a year, each of which consists of two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I'll be taking PE 10 and Bio 11 first term. Classes start at 9 am and go to 3:30 pm, Monday to Thursday.
