RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Why do they need posters to show they allow it?? Its not like they have posters that say we accept human beings here or something. Sorry I just find it stupid that they need posters to say they accept them there when not having the posters up would maybe be better.

it's not like a poster saying it's a rule or something, it's like ones they get from helplines and stuff, they put them up near the library with things about how cool reading is and how everyone gets depressed, it's more of a motivational poster or something...sorry I didn't make it clear in the other post >_<

I meant its not like they need to single them out or something. I don't like people in general but to me gay people are no different than others. Smile

I think gay men would make excellent friends, unfortunately I don't know any but when I get older I hope to meet some. Since I'm a girl it would be pretty cool to be able to hang around boys who don't always talk about sport and chicks and you know they aren't going to try and hit on you.

Never had them hit on me and all they did was talk about normal stuff. I couldn't even tell they were gay except when I met the boyfriend or they told me.

pwned.
I really hate it when people call people gay/lesbian just because they hug their friends. That's just retarded and makes me want to slap people really hard. Brickwall

Wolf Wrote:El Paso. I believe it's one of the more liberal towns of Texas, but this city is very heavily Catholic, and of course, Catholics (in general) love persecuting the queers, so even if the political views are more liberal here, it still has a rather conservative view on gays.

It's pretty odd, but from what I understand, Dallas tends to be the most liberal city as far as gay rights goes. Bill Oakley didn't get mayor here, but he still pulled well over 40%. Theres a dyke for a sheriff, a megachurch, and something like the 5th largest concentration of homos. The suburbs suck, but the city is weirdly okay with it (sans the most Northern, filthy rich parts of the city.)

Where my mom lives, the campaign supervisor for the mayor is a dog.

More like Northern Ontario.

It's one of the places where not much happens and they said, "What the hell." The mayor is supposedly one of the best they have had though. The fact that he would have his dog as campaign manager shows he is more regular guy than phony politician.

No. A dog can't help you at all. It shows he is either brilliant and could run the country just by himslef or it shows he is Cuckoo .
