RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

unfair homework assignment

I've been given this homework assignment for my history class where I have a list of 100 people and I have to put them in order of their birthdates, now this should take about 20 minutes but I have a learning disability, it's a form of mild autism, I don't want to go into detail but pretty much sequencing is pure hell for me, it's going to take over an hour, should I complain to my teacher or waste all my time on this pointless task? my teachers are supposed to accomidate (spelling?) my "special needs" but don't, I hate how I don't get the help I need just because my learning disability isn't immediately recognisable. I pretty much just wanted to complain somewhere, you don't need to try and fix my problem.

well the list already has the birthdates of the people it's just they're not in any order so I have to put it in order and the list has 100 names on it...not only is it tedious and entirely pointless it's taking a very long time, I know I should be doing it now instead of posting on here but I'm getting tired of it, I managed to put 5 names in order in 10 minutes...

Wow! I don't know whether I've ever gotten a homework assignment that made such a little attempt at seeming to have some point. What class is it for? You could just guess and get most of them right. You could also write a script to figure it out from Wikipedia articles.

it's for History, it's not really that hard it's just taking a very long time, I have a list of famous Australians and their birthdates and I have to put it in order of their birthdates. It makes no sense at all, I HATE my history teacher >_<

Use a spreadsheet program like Excel and let it sort it for you.

If I had an assignment like that, I'd probably write a PHP script to put 'em in order and then just copy it over. But I'm guessing that's not an option for you... Can't you copy someone else's answer?

Just trawl through it and put his/her name at the bottom of the list, something like 12,000 BC. That will piss them off.
Hehehehe. I'm gonna have to try that.

you defiantley should complain to teachers about meeting your needs. schools are supposed to make each student feel secure and good about themselves and help each student individualy. [sarcasm]those teachers are doing a great job it.[/sarcasm]

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Wow, I've heard of busy work but that is completely pointless, sorry to hear that your teacher's making you do such a stupid thing.

I've finished it finally, I started doing it at about 2:30PM and I finished at around 9PM, with many, many extended breaks but if it wasn't so boring I wouldn't have had to take so many breaks -_-" and I still have an essay to do on a famous Australian of my choice, well they say that but everyone in the class had to choose a different person from the list, I really wanted to do Germaine Greer but someone else chose her Upset

there's so many people on that list who were sport stars, how do sport stars contribute to our society? I mean one of the bloody guys has been knighted, Sir Donald Bradman, he's a bloody cricket player! I know lots of people will disagree with me but I hate sport, I think it encourages violence way more than TV or video games *stops self before I go on a long off topic rant*

Well I personally like sports but I do find it strange that sport stars are so famous and are paid so much just because they play sports.

That is the most pointless task I have ever heard of. I doubt anyone will actually learn anything from it.
