RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I cant stand it anymore

I really hate school. Its not the teachers. Its the fact that what ive been learning is utterly useless, and im bored out of my mind. I have these classes:
Geometry--too easy. i taught myself calculus already
Chemistry--we dont even have a chem-lab, and all the fun chemicals are prohibited at school
English--the only class with a good teacher, but i dont need to learn how to "read effectively"
NWUS History--Northwest US history....I just dont care...and no one has givin me a reason to
Spanish--ive never spoken/used it outside of class

Its not that i dont like to learn. i love learning! Im really interested in psychology, philosophy, and cooking(im not sure how i can use all of them in the same career though).

The second problem is my classmates. They are by far some of the stupidest, close-minded people i have ever meet. They all think school is just 'a Hall of Glory and Happiness and Learning!' There is only 1 other person who feels the same way i do about school. We have tried numerous times to show people the truth about school. We are constantly talking to people and including things in class discussions about it. We tried starting underground papers, websites, protests, but all of them fell through(luckily, we never got blamed/caught for any of it).

The last problem(i promise) is my parents. They try to force me to get a 4.0 avg. and if i get anything below a B-, i get in trouble. They dont really listen to any of my ideas/thoughts about school, and treat me like i dont know anything. They say, " As long as you are in my house, you will follow my rules. If you dont like it, you can leave." Lemme tell you, ive already got bags packed.

I think all i really needed was a place to vent. Thanks for listening, and if you have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, welcome Smile

I guess the easiest thing in your case would be to bring as much interesting stuff to do in class as you can get away with. I always drew a lot of stuff, and planned things, and daydreamed a lot. But then I can easily amuse myself for hours just thinking about stuff. I guess not everyone can do that Razz

potasium is an oxidizer. Whn it hits water it has a shit fit and cumbusts. Its cool. If its in pellet form then it whizes around on the top of the water whil it has its shit fit. Just dont put TOO much in. other wise your teacher will join in on the shit fit.

Me neither. People keep saying that it's important but I really couldn't care less. I don't care about wars, I didn't cause them and they don't effect me. End of story.

The subject called "History" in school and real, actual history are not the same thing Razz

I figure that if you're interested enough in something, you'll end up finding out the history behind it anyway. Except in that case, there's no memorizing stupid dates and weird foreign names.
