RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Homework from Hell

It is now official, we are given way too much homework at school. I just spent from 2:45 to 8:10 doing homework. This is my sixth day of school. What are they trying to accomplish? What's really getting to me is doing the work on top of taking care of my family. Anyone else have these problems? Ranting Shooting

I just lost my train of thought, wow.

So far I've had 15-20 assignments in the first week.
On the first day I had about five.

Hmm.... usually doesnt take me long, and I'm in an honors class. Which has a bad rep for lots of homework.
Eh, guess I just work fast.

More homework = more control outside of school.

Actually I do less then a 1/2 hour of homework in school.
I do math in like the 5-10 minute slot before class ends, and that the only class I have after study hall
Then I do msot everything else in study hall
And even have time to draw

I have done like 5 seconds of homework. I tried to do some chemistry but I didn't feel like it. it would probably help because I have a hard time remembering the the difference between the various structural isomers of propyl and butyl.

I normally have as much homework as you. I don't do it anymore though; I just fake it or do a really bad job. I used to try to do it all, and I could never get it all done while still getting what is considered enough sleep, even when I removed all of the unnecessary activities.

I totally agree. This is why I usually only post here on weekends, or as I'm typing up a paper (like I'm doing right now). Almost every day I do homework from the moment I get home until 2:00am in the morning since every freaking class HAS TO assign homework. Before now, I didn't know people could live off of 3-4 hours of sleep, but apparently it's possible. It's horrible because there's no end in sight. If we could just go home and not think about school for a little while, it would be tolerable, but it's like I have no life except for school. I think I'd rather be in prison.

Except, as I mentioned before, I was lucky enough to stop caring and just give up at trying to stay on top of things. In my previous post, I mentioned that I don't actually do the work. I still feel quite stressed by it because I can't get myself to do it and know that I will get in trouble for that, so that still applies to me, but it's not so extreme anymore.

I also corrected your spelling of the word "sight."

I wish I could be like you, but if the stress doesn't go away either way, I don't think it'd be a good idea. Not to mention you get suspended after two missed assignments at my school, but then again, that wouldn't be so bad...

I usually don't find it worth it to correct my spelling on a forum, so err... thanks for your concern.

my parents get pissed if i dont do my homework. i mean real pissed. almost like i just killed their dog or something. its so annoying though because homework has never really helped me....ever.... BUT, they are stupid and think grades in school dictates your entire life and how successful you will be, and all that other crap.

Common Sense: H.W. doesn't actualyl help you, just tell you if you are confused. H.W. is doen to get good grades, which won't affect your life later.

CONCLUSION: DO IT ANYWAYS!!!

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

It is a good idea, if you wanna "show them who's the boss", they may get mad, but in the end you'll have a lot more respect for yourself.
I think I would have psycho problems if I didn't stand up for myself and say fuck off I'm never doing any work no matter what you say.
What exactly do you earn by doing the homework really? I bet your answer is gonna look like it's written by a teacher.. we'll see Razz

I normally just don't care about homework( which is why I failed most of last year) but my mom is getting on my case about how I'm "smarter than most of the kids at school"(ok, so it's true but I still don't like it) and how if I just do my homework then I'll ace all of my classes( also true, but I'm on a roll with this denial).

I just lost my train of thought, wow.

You guys are pussies. Just don't do your homework. I can count the number of times I've done homework in high school on one hand and still have a couple fingers to work with. I'm talking of course, about the stuff that's not worth marks. I'm surprised that you ppl do that homework that would only amount to a checkmark or less. Some teachers don't even check homework, yet I still find it astonishing that kids do it.

@SuperFan, I've failed most of of my last two years and I don't let it bother me. You are so smart that you've figured out homework is pointless. Keep at it.

And in closing, HOMEWORK SHOULD BE BANNED. If you can't get anything done in 7 hours at school, the system is flawed. Don't let your life outside school(you have one, btw) become flawed with their busy work.

I also sometimes don't do the stuff that does matter. Normally I manage something though.

my school assigns a lot of homework but I always have time to get it done in class. In history the first 20 minutes of class we do nothing so there is a good time to get started and it's in the middle of the dayand my main homework giving teachers are before history so I got lucky. having Trig last period would suck teacher gives way too much homework Yuck

To Hayley44: Do you not have time to at least start in class? If you do take advantage of it.

I've had algebra homework since the first day of school, and o far its fine, because algebra is easy for me. I asked my teacher, and she says we'll be having one everyday until the end of the year. Ugh. But the rest of my classes, I've hardly had any.
