RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

pointless assignments

Does anyone have anything like this?

Current events: We must find an article and write a one page paper on it. WTF is this supposed to do for us? (besides teach us to follow orders of the teachers that think they are so special)

Reading Cards: About the same thing as current events but it must be on a note card.

Both of these have absolutely no point at all and need to be abolished
Is any one with me on this?
If teachers can't think of a good reason to do something, They shouldn't do it.

OMG OMG ME AND CURRENT EVENTS.. GOOD TIMES

So last year every other friday on last period we would arange our desks in a circle and brign in a news article of our choice, write a short summary and sate ur opinions. it was as fun as hell, we would ALWAYS GET INTO HUGE DEABTES (almost all of which involved me and me contreversy XD) and i would always brign in ant-bush article.. or almost always.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

You probably go to a school with "high academic standards"(MORE HOMEWORK), right?

Current events is usually up there with the fun stuff, similar to what darthmat described(especially when your opinion on something makes people laugh).

I do go to a school with a high standerd. Standerdized test scores are extremely high.

As for current events being fun. My teacher sucks the fun right out of it. He tells us what the article must be about. if it is not we get a 0. Then if the paper is too short by even one line We lose 25 points. It happened to me and my friend.

I knew it!

And based on your spelling, the standards mean nothing. Laugh

Schools like that suck the fun out of everything.

I know. My spelling sucks but I make good grades (except in stuff that requires correct spelling of course)

Ugh, I had to do things like that last year too. We had to summarize the article and then write our response to it...my responses were always really sarcastic and cynical. It was bad, bad, bad.

Zomg we have current issues this year =D
I love them because they're worth 40 points and I can do another for 10 extra credit.

But the proplem is we have to use an article or something for our sumamry of the event.
I mean I can jsut summarize a basic issue (Yes, I've read that much about shit)

And when I write current issues, we discuss them, so I see them as a nice oppurtunity to enlighten people on severe issues that need to be dealt with. (Which is why when I write an essay, I choose things like Sudan and American Terrorism to talk about)

Whch reminds me, any ideas that need severe attention that doesn't get any? And that would really benifit an important cause?

(I don't mean "Bush is stupid" I mean "inocent poeple are dying")
Kind of thing, and an issue that isnt well known.
