RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: The School Violence thread

I'm not going to say I hope that we have a massacre or anything at our school, but I would like to see something happen that scares people. The student population needs to be reminded that they are not safe at our school. A good scare would probably really get people thinking about how they treat others and stuff.

You know, if someone pulls out a look alike water gun and scares everyone, then it'll get people thinking "You know... that Alex kid is probably capable of something real, and I'm not too nice to him..." It might turn out to be a good thing. As long as no one gets hurt, or seriously hurt, anyway. That would just suck, and they'd kick the random searches up a notch.

Unfortunatly, there arn't any laws that prevent them from random searching us. Fortunatly, there arn't any laws that say that they have every right to search us either. So, we can refuse to submit to a search, but then they'll just call in the police. It's not cool. But, people have found a way around them already. Just junk your illegal materials in a forgotten corner of the classroom or tape them to the bottom of your desk before you get searched. Not hard.

We had big random searches go on last week, every class in the science wing got searched. One of my friends got detained for an hour for having allergy medicine on her (they thought she was abusing it or something, idiots), but it turned out OK. Ah yes, and then another friend of mine got searched 8 times. It's like a record. She of course does weed, coke and heroin, but, wowzer.

That actually sounds good, a scare would be nice, especially if I knew it was a scare and nobody else did Biggrin

Bad idea. Virginia Tech happened right during my worst year, and it kept them away for a while but in the long run it just scares away anyone who might have considered being your friend. The terrorist label takes a minute to gain, and years to lose.

I remember once that a transvestite high school student threw some kind of smoke bomb when I was in, like, first grade. There was this huge interrogation. I still remember all of us panicking and running like psychos away from the smoke.

Re: The School Violence thread

Yeah, a good basic rule of life is:

If you see other people running for an exit, you should run too.

Now when you say interrogation, do you mean the police/school authorities questioned the entire student body, or did they only interrogate the kid who did it? Did they interrogate you guys in a mean way or anything? Did they handle the situation in what you think was an appropriete way? If so, why or why not?

lol, why run from the smoke? on another note though thats not how students act. theyve been brainwashed to do the lockdown procedure basically, such a deathtrap for them. i mean all i would have to do is walk to the bottom floor window, smash it, kill whoever is inside, go out the same window, smash the next, repeat.

Actually, the best thing to do is probably what everyone else isn't doing. If they're running for the exit, then that's where the bullets will be flying at so take cover. If everyone's cowering under their desks, you and your friends GTFO.

Re: The School Violence thread

The principals interrogated everyone. We ran from smoke because we panicked, and we were friggin first graders. Also, no, it wasn't a REAL bomb, like those that blow up.

Re: The School Violence thread

in my school they do random checks. they bring in like half the police force. dogs and everything its funny.

at my home school people get stabed alot and everyone carries a knife. they had swat there ounce last year. they had there guns out and everything. about 40 mexicans got into a crazy as fight brawl thing across the street behind a family video.

this other school has had atleast 2 bomb threats a year. i knew more about it when i was in middle school we were right next to them. no and then it be so bad they would flock over to our school to hide. but that school always has had proplems it had 9 suicides in a year before.

and aviator you dont need a knife a pen/pencil well work just as well.

life is just blah blah blah. we hope for blah, and sometimes we find it. but mostly its blah. and waiting for blah. and hoping you were right about the blahs you made. and when you think you just got the whole blah damn thing figured out, and your surrounded by the ones you blah. death shows up and blah blah blah.

Re: The School Violence thread

I personally hate all of this new zero tolerance stuff. You can't fight back even if you've been attacked without fear of suspension or expulsion! Maybe even some time in Juvy! Its insane. The cops don't even really believe in it, at least I don't think so. When the cop came in to explain to us about the policies, I asked him what we should do if we are attacked. He said run. I asked him what to do if we are cornered. He said call for help. I asked him what to do if we can't call for help of if the teachers won't get there in time for us not to get seriously injured. He just gave a shrug at that. I've heard stories about kids who have been hurt because they were to scared to fight back. One kid(I'm sorry, I can't recall the name) was escorting a smaller student across the parking lot, because the kid was scared to go by himself (dangerous school). 3 guys came up to them and started messing around. The guy who was escorting the kid was big and tough. But he was so afraid of getting in trouble that he just took it. Its been years and his wounds still haven't healed.
I've also heard stories of kids basically curling up into balls when attacked, and they still sometimes are suspended for fighting. This is just plain insane to me, and I think there needs to be some serious reform done on these policies. They seem to be doing more harm than good.

Quote:LISTEN PPL I GOE 2 SKOOL I GET EDACATUN I LERN THINGZ N THEIR AINT NUTTIN RONG WIT GOEN 2 SKOOL. I GO 2 SKOOL DEN 2 COLLEGE TO GET GR8 JOB MAYBE EVEN BECOME GOOD LAWYER. SO U GUISE NEED 2 QUIT TRYIN 2 GET PPL TO STAY OUT OF SKOOL. SKOOL IS KEWL PPLZ.

That right there, is the true meaning of, Epic Fail.

Re: The School Violence thread

Fight today, Some russian kid, David pushed another kid, Eric. And the Eric tried to choke him. So david Went all ape-shit on him and punched him in the face 4 times while his friends came up and started kicking eric. They were already planning to jump him after school, They asked me if I wanted to come fight. He was some asshole that had been pushing them around. My school hardly ever has fights. David, (sometimes I hang with him.) has been suspended for vandalism (along with his friend) before. (It wasn't vandalism I would know, They were actually taking the tiles from the ceiling off and climbing up in there.) And the other friend helping him fight was suspended, likely along with him.

Fights don't happen alot here, And judging from David and his friends. This will be on going. One of his friends carries A knife and is planning to get in a fight with another kid and use it. Something tells me that this could lead into worse fights, Because once people start using knife's people are gonna get hurt, Badly.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

Some teacher's pet fat douchebag punched me in the eye today.

That's all, and then he started crying and made me look bad.

LOL! This is off topic, but my friend Kris had a friend, he was short and had red hair like a leprechaun, who climbed up into the ceiling tiles during school (he climbed on the top of a vending machine to reach the ceiling). He got into the ceiling, walked across the entire length of the school on the pipes, and then in the middle of the hallway slid back a ceiling tile. When people walked underhim he screamed and the people would feak out. Finally two girls were walking along and the guy jumped down out of the ceiling right in front of them and screamed "THERE AFTER MY LUCKY CHARMS!" and ran off down the hall! I would have loved to see that.

Re: The school violence thread

I find zero tolerance to be a very suspect policy. Just loaded with hypocrisy. The popular opinion used to be "tell a teacher". When that didn't work (because nobody gave a shit) they said "handle it yourself". Never mind that that didn't work either. Now with zero tolerance the "solution" gets updated again, where if you handle it yourself, you're to blame. So what's left? Multiple solutions with none of them working is very indicative of a mandatory system such as school which underestimates the students and accepts zero blame on itself.

Re: The school violence thread

I remember last year one of the younger kids lit a wall on fire with some gasoline...Moron, brick walls don;t burn, even with gas. Rolleyes
But that's the biggest thing since it's a small country school, I wish something scary WOULD happen, then at least I could say I had an interesting last year at that school. Also, the whole lockdown/code red thing is stupid, we're all just sitting ducks, during the practices I do what they say, but if it were real, there's no way I wouldn't grab for something heavy and stand behind the door.

Probably not the smartest idea, but if it failed, I'd have at least gone out fighting instead of being in some corner of the classroom hiding under my desk and whimpering like a baby.
