RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

I have a teacher that says "HUSH, HUSH, HUSH" every time he wants us to shut up. Yep, every damn time. I feel like my head is going to explode every time he says it. Mad

He has sort of a monotone voice, yet he yells when he says it. It's a really annoying combination.

Re: Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

My shop teacher last semester, at least twice a day would say

"Hold it down in here!"

most predictable thing ever.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

Re: Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

high school geometry teacher would always say, "I'm mean, cold, and heartless."
One time she got upset (about to cry) about something that I said, and I said, "Why are you upset? I thought you were heartless."

Re: Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

A long time ago, I had a 4th grade teacher who had a few. "Golden Opportunity" and the even more annoying "No excuses". There are probably a bazillion more, but those are the ones that come to mind.

LOL WUT?

No seriously, what the hell is that supposed to mean? Do I WANT to know? Laugh

PWNED! Those type of teachers really grate me. Even if some of them know how to teach, I wish they'd just shut the hell up.

My woodshop teacher doesn't want us to drop his nuts in one of the saws.

"Um..."
"Uh."
"So"
^ Basically every teacher I've ever had.
"*Insert four hour speech on the holocaust*"

In the opposite aspect here's some AWESOME catchphrases of teacher's I've had.
"Oh really? ...*Pauses for a couple seconds* Oh yeah!"
"Do not smoke the art supplies."
"The record of stitches needed for an injury in this class is 23. If you hurt yourself; beat the record."
"A stripper makes about $800 a week around here...That can get you through COLLEGE!"

Re: Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

The only thing I can think of at the top of my head was a health teacher who always said "Hello" as "Heller" like 50 times per day. It doesn't help that she was always talking about "The Secret" and other nonsense.

Re: Do your teacher have any annoying catchphrases?

One of mine just LOVES to argue that since every teenager is on the "search for individuality", we're all conformists. If you have any sort of inspiration from any culture, your a conformist, etc. It gets pretty annoying.

And last time I checked, conformity is doing anything just because "the crowd" is doing so.

"Excuse me!"

* Half my teachers say this to get us quiet. It gets annoying.

"5, 4, 3,2,1..."

*Spanish teacher does this to keep us quiet. Actually works.
