RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Really I don't.
Only in retarded commercials and shit.
See? I say we ban ads and tv =D

that's sort of what i'm talking about. the pressures we put on people are unspoken ones. we all like to idea of equality, but people have their prejudices. no one likes to admit that we treat people differently, but it still happens no matter how many rules are made against it.

none of your teachers are going to come right out and say, "act like a girl. damn it", but they'll be thinking it.

this is just what my experiences have taught me. you may have been fortunate enough to live in an area that doesn't have as much of this going on, but i don't think it is very common.

Maybe you're just cynical? It's easy to perceive what you want to.

And no... their isn't an unspoken one. That's society, not school.

And we're not even on the original subject matter anymore.

Well, as far as I know, 80% of teachers are female, (for whatever reason, that's a different subject) so obviously if both genders have different learning styles, (they do, to an extent) and the teachers are teaching 80% to one side, that's leaving the other at a disadvantage. And just to clear it up right off the bat, I think males and females are equivalent. Notice I don't say "equal". Guys are better at abstract thought, apparently, and girls are better at something else. Like memory or something, I can't remember, I'm not gonna go look it up. But there are differences. And I mainly disagree with freak. I've never heard any boy say "Like, Oh my God." "Like", yes. "Oh my God", yes. But never in sequence. But that's irrelevent really. Personal experience wise, girls do better in school, because they're slightly more compatable with the complete imbroglio that is school than boys are. And that's all I have to say about that.

Not really. There's actually a test on this and it sees if you're more spatial or w.e
and the nor mfor it is girls 50% on the girls side, and guys 50% on the guys side
I got 25% on the guys side.... and I'm a female. So your learning styles can kiss mah ass.

Oh and all my teachers except for one are female. Infact the ratio seems to lean in favor of male teachers at my school. (That means they're more of them)

Re: School favor girls

Girls are definitely different to boys, in the sense of the different brains. Schools don't care, so they're inclined to act more towards one gender. What I say is. All boys and all girls one year, then the next all gender, and so on and so on. And let kids be taught be their own gender in the all boys/girls year. It'd work better.

Ew!

I think we'd lose so much perspective if we segregated guys and girls. Coed makes everything better. If I was with just girls I think I'd go mad. Just as much as I'd go mad if I were probably with all guys. I need that balance.

Let's do the time warp again!

What's sad is that a certain % of boys/girls have very little contact with the opposite sex anyway, in the coed environment.

O_O

Not in my experience.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Re: School favor girls

The point is, they can be taught in their own way. Or perhaps be sorted into groups in how they learn.

Lol. I wasn't confident to socialize with girls till this year.

P.S. I barley talked to girls till year 9, and even then it was really only one I had befriended.

"Girls mature more quickly than boys," she said. "They enter school with bigger vocabularies and better fine motor skills, so it's easier for them to learn to write."

My ass. I am only 12 (well, almost) and when I was in kindergarten I was reading like 4th grade shit. I, for some reason, seem to interact better with MOST adults than most kids.

I feel this article idea of "maturity" is being confused with "obedience" and "submissiveness".

Re: School favor girls

I would go totally bonkers if I was forced to be around only girls all the time. 99% of girls make me facepalm a lot more than 99% of guys, mostly due to their gossip and retarded topics of discussion.
